The Gecko Battambang — Restaurant in Battambang

So good I went back a second time and may go back a third.

During my travels I like you eat local, basically I eat my way around a country but now and again I want something similar from home and saw this place makes a steak meal.

The steak is perfectly cooked with fries, a sauce made from stock which I think is blended with caramelised onion and garlic and there is a raw onion, garlic and vinegar dressing, again, blended into a puree which is so incredibly tasty.

Any place can cook good food but it's whether they can do it consistently which is key.

Well this place can. Friendly staff, a kind of taverna style place with indoor and outdoor seating.

It's a few km out of town but it's worth the journey. They have several other things on the menu but I just want a good steak..

Other things are sold here like silver jewelry and fabrics.

Some food just puts nutrients into the body and some food provokes emotions and this place makes 'happy food ' which makes me smile.

Ok. Updating my review. Because I went back a third time and it was an equally tasty and lovely experience. I forgot to mention the banana and nut cake which makes a lovely dessert.

I rarely give 5 stars because I think nothing in the universe is perfect but the food here fills me with joy.

I had a wonderful time at The Gecko. The food was authentic, fresh, and delicious. I tried the sushi platter, the udon soup, salmon salad and the tuna bowl. Everything was well-prepared and beautifully presented. The prices were reasonable.

The owner was very friendly and attentive. He greeted me with a smile and explained the menu items to me. He also gave me some recommendations on what to order.

The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. The restaurant was decorated with many hand crafted bracelets and accessories paintings. I love the loft style design and dining at the top.

I highly recommend The Gecko to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine. It is one of the best restaurants in Battambang and a must-visit for travelers. I will definitely come back again when...

Prices are pretty reasonable along with decent meat. The atmosphere is great. Quiet, retro, and overall a good vibe. No loud music, subtle sounds. Friendly staff also.

I ordered the steak set (to go), and the meat was tender and well seasoned. Salad tasted fresh and crisp, simply delicious. But sadly the fries were let down. Mine were soggies even though they just fried it. But that could simply be my fault for keeping them in the container for too long. ALSO, the ketchup tasted a little too tangy?
