We spent three nights at the Cape d’or lighthouse in early October. The bedroom itself, met our basic needs and was comfortable enough, as was the ensuite bathroom. In fact, the shower water remained hot, even when there were 6 guests in the home, using water at the same time one morning. There is a shared living area, which has a refrigerator, toaster oven, utensils, and sink. There is no TV and Wifi is a bit spotty, BUT the views of the Bay of Fundy, the cliffs, the lighthouse, and moon lit nights, were spectacular and a photographer’s dream. There is no longer a working fog horn at the lighthouse, but do bring eye shades if you are sensitive to light at night, as the light house light continues in use. We also learned that the best way to reach Darcy, who runs the lighthouse guest home, is by text messaging, and you will need to know how to get into the guest home if he is not there upon arrival. He was very friendly and hospitable when we met him, as well as his helper, and very responsive when I asked for another pillow, and suggestions for places to do laundry.||||The drive up to the lighthouse is about 7 kilometers, on a dirt road, which does have a few steep areas. We would suggest parking in the lot at the end of the road, packing light, and walking down to the guest home and lighthouse, as the road from the parking lot to the lighthouse is a steep and rocky, and there is one area that does not have guard rails. We would also recommend eating at the lighthouse at least one night, if dinner is available {it is not served every night}. Darcy is a gourmet cook, and all meals (including breakfast) were outstanding. Breakfast included the best coffee in all of our 3-week Canada trip. There are also some lovely hiking trails in the area. A highly recommended...
Read moreIf you’re looking for luxury, go somewhere else because you won’t appreciate the rustic simplicity and beauty of this place! I’ve never been able to unwind and relax, feel so in tune with nature, all while staying in a bare bone’s, clean and welcoming place. Yes, it’s a trek down the rocky road… yes, the views and experience are worth every bit of it. Park at the viewing lot and walk down.. it’s an experience! No, there is no WiFi or fancy accommodations- no, you won’t need either! We found so much to do on the property. Grab some snacks from the gas station (Advocate Irving) and enjoy the bare bones of this astonishing viewpoint and serene environment. The 1-star reviews clearly don’t appreciate simplicity, humor, or freedom of being a business owner & making your own decisions about your business. When Darcy cooks, the food is incredible- we had supper, lemon caper salmon & veg/chicken curry. Breakfast was French toast one morning and an eggs/bacon/toast breakfast the other. If you’re an adventurer looking for incredible accommodations at an incredible price, look no further. If you’re a customer looking for WiFi, 5-star accommodations, easy accessibility, I suggest you...
Read moreWe stayed overnight at the Lighthouse in one of the keeper's houses and ate dinner and breakfast in the small restaurant on-site, which occupied the other keeper's house. The restaurant is very small and simple, but immaculate, with seating for people who come just for dinner as well as for people who are staying overnight. Darcy prepared an awesome dinner (seafood lasagna, caesar salad, strawberry rhubarb tart), one of the best meals we have ever eaten. Breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared as well. A family group had come up from town for a celebratory dinner when we were there. Everything is very casual and friendly. Wine beer and spirits are available.||The "hotel" rooms are simple but atmospheric; perhaps a little updating is in order. There is a nice common room with books, coffee, tea, etc. Of course, the best feature is that you can see the Lighthouse from your room. Definitely recommend this experience, it will add a lot to...
