We have eaten here many times. We stopped going due to poor service and crspy food. We decided to try again. This is the second time in a row for the new owners and menu. I normally do not like to write bad reviews, but staff need to step it up for the new owners. I understand your busy, but I called 3x yesterday to confirm a reservation. Talked to Dianne and Allie both assured me my reservation would be updated. Why 3x? Reservation for 4, 1x to change it to 6, then I called to confirm and 2 staff Allie assured me it was fine Our reservation was for outside. We get there, no reservation. 3x? Really ladies? We ended up inside, roght in front of the band. So loud it hurt my ears, we couldn't talk to each other. The service was super slow. My daughter's order wasn't even placed, they said you didn't order anything, she did, we ordered at the same time, even when I said I was paying for her oder. We had to go to the bar after over 25 min waiting for a drink and menu. To be told rudely to my bf, we have table service. We'll then come to the table. The first time same thing, terrible service and Chicken Snitzel was over cooked. I had ordered a pizza to go for my child. Got a phone call that he was headed to the ER. now that was upsetting enough, i go to the till and explain i need to leave. She stalled so that I would have to wait for the pizza to be finished i said i need to leace now, she stalled, then said well its only going to be a few more minutes, Ill go get your pizza now. FFS, such compassion. My food yesterday was delicious, Short Ribs, but it was very cold. I asked for some hot gravy, it helped. The first time was quit rude, lady almost stabbed me in the breast with a knife and then made some rude comments about me having breast implants that that could have been a disaster thinking she's being funny, i replied no worries there, they are real. Just in poor tatse. I'm not sure if I'll go back..possibly as it's the only place around to get a decent Pizza. As for going out to eat there, most unlikely...
Read moreTL;DR: Food is amazing, service leaves much to be desired.
Been here twice with my partner, sat out on the patio both times. Both times were fairly busy, but not insane.
Food: Both times, the food was outstanding. The second visit, all dishes tasted good but temperature was off on a few (see 2 star service comment below). It was one of those 'I know this would have been 10/10 if it was brought out to me when it was ready' type of situations. The oysters are amazing (Oysters millionaire was our favorite). Fried oysters are great but very rich. Lobster mac was to die for. Burgers are very good too.
Service: First visit, we had a group of guys next to us talking extremely loudly and smoking pot on the patio. Waitstaff that evening was younger, female, and honestly I think felt threatened by these men so didn't feel compelled to tell them to stop or smoke away from other patrons. I don't mind the smell of that, just not in a restaurant setting when on a date with my partner.
Second visit, we were there for 2.5 hours, and not by choice. Saw 4 tables get fully sat, served drinks, apps, and main meals before we were even served our first beer. Food came 2 hrs later and was a mix of cold/lukewarm/piping hot depending on the dish. I wouldn't have really cared until when I closed out (had to walk to the bar to do so), the server said "sorry that took so long, we were really busy and it's hard to see you out there on the patio".
A, don't sit us somewhere you won't be able to serve us in a semi timely fashion, and B, that's a tough story to buy if we didn't see you serve adjacent tables and leave us alone for 90+ mins without serving us our drink we ordered 45 mins prior.
All in all, I'd go back but definitely not on a Friday/Saturday night. Seems you need to be in the 'regulars' crowd to get prompt service. Food is phenomenal though and I'm willing to give them...
Read moreDisappointing to say the least. We went to FBI to enjoy Fanny Bay Oysters in Fanny Bay, expecting care, freshness, and pride in local ingredients — unfortunately, none of that came through.
The oysters arrived within minutes, which raised concern that they’d been pre-shucked. They were dry, full of shell fragments, and completely lacking their natural liquor. The garnish of curly parsley was mostly stems, and the “mignonette” was little more than roughly chopped pickled onion — not an actual mignonette.
The fried oysters were heavily breaded and dense, absorbing so much batter that they turned cakey. They weren’t seasoned and, despite being listed on the menu, no tartar sauce accompanied them. Even small details were overlooked: the lemon wedges were full of seeds, the Tabasco bottle turned out to be buffalo hot sauce, and the oysters were haphazardly piled on a cramped tray.
Menus were old, stained, and crumbling — not what you’d expect from a restaurant representing local seafood. When we politely expressed that the food wasn’t up to standard, staff chose to gossip about it behind the bar instead of addressing it with professionalism.
For a place that carries the name “Fanny Bay,” I truly hope they take a closer look at integrity, attention to detail, and genuine customer service. These are the small things that build — or break — trust...
