My boyfriend, a friend and her husband and I pulled up to the front of the lodge on motorcycles, the one owner immediately came out the front door and told us to move the bikes to the side of the lodge because they take up too much room, then we go inside to check in she asks us what we've booked I tell her I can't recall as it was some time ago. She proceeds to tell me she will show only me the room while the boys moved the bikes once again under her request. She takes me down stairs into a dark basement and shows me the room, tells me to take off my shoes. The room has 2 queen beds, no tv, no coffee, 2 towels in the washroom. I ask her about the outdoor jaccuzzi that is advertised on the website and she tells me it isn't working and it is too hot out to use anyway, this was one of the main reasons I chose this specific place to stay. She walks back up the stairs, I follow her and she doesn't give me a key or say anything and walks straight into the kitchen.
I get the rest and take them to the room which they are immediately disappointed by the lack of amenities in the room. My boyfriend and I go back up to get a key and the husband is near the front desk and when we ask him for a key he tells us no we don't give out keys, you can lock the room with the handle on the door. I then ask how I get back into the room and he tells us we ask them to let us back in. When we ask him what we do if we are in town and come back late he tells us he won't let us in past a certain time and that we cannot make any noise. We eventually convinced him to give us a key.
When checking out I proceed to the front the lady hands me the receipt, didn't ask how our stay was or anything. The cost was $550 for 2 nights in what had to be the worst room I and the rest of us had ever stayed in.
All in all I initially didn't feel welcomed at this place from beginning to end and I most definitely do not think the price is worth...
Read moreMy wife and I had a great stay with Doris and her family. The lodge is wonderful. It was the perfect relaxing 4 night stay that we needed. Doris was waiting for us on our arrival and greeted us both with big hugs. We rented one of the cabins on the property, and it was a cute little cabin, perfectly clean with a small kitchenette and patio that we could sit out on. The property is nestled back in a canyon next to a pretty little creek and is remarkably quiet. It very much has a quaint country bed and breakfast feel to it. Doris offers the service of cooking breakfast or dinner for guests, which I strongly recommend. She is originally from Germany and makes a phenomenal schnitzel, but the dinner was even nicer as she and her family sat down next to us and ate too. It was very special and welcoming, making us feel like part of her family. We both had salads with the meal that are largely made from her own garden!||||We chose the spot because we wanted to do some hiking in Yoho, Banff, and Glacier National Park of Canada. The weather was not cooperative the first day so we spent the day in Golden, which has a neat little downtown with some good food and pretty scenery in the valley. ||||The next day we drove a little less than an hour to get to Emerald Lake, and did the 18km emerald triangle (check out alltrials for info and pictures), which was spectacular. ||||We also took walks around the property. It is near a bear habitat, wolf habitat, and about 45 mins away from radium hot springs. ||||My wife and I travel quite a bit, and places like this are why. Really getting to know nice folks that live in the area, stay at their home, and enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the world within an...
Read moreWow, what can I say to do this place justice? The lovely German couple that run this little gem are some of the most wonderful folks I've ever met. When we arrived, we were greeted almost like family! The cabin we rented for 2 nights was well appointed and immaculate. The beds are a tad smallish (pretty standard for a cabin, I suppose), but comfortable. The bathroom was clean and well laid out, and the water pressure is good. The kitchenette has everything you'd need for an extended stay. The whole place fit 4 very comfortably, and there could potentially be room for more.
The chalet part of the place (separate from the cabins) features a gorgeous dining area where (upon request) the couple will make a simply marvellous and elaborate breakfast. Some of the dishes are quite likely either family secrets or historical German recipes, and we will be trying our hand at replicating some of them when we're back home.
The hot tub was shut down for the summer season due to unscrupulous folks abusing it, so I didn't deduct any marks for that. One of the neighbours to the property were running their smoker for a few hours in the afternoon, exacerbating the smoke front the regional fires, but again no deductions because it was short-lived and out of the proprietor's control.
Over our short stay we really enjoyed the property, and the folks running it. We will absolutely stay in touch, not only to enjoy their hospitality once again, but because we feel like family now!
I give this place an...
