Let me start off with the positives.... The service was excellent and we were well taken care of by a friendly fellow whose name I did not get. The fries were kickass... nice and crispy but not too crispy and they had a nice coating of something on them. We both really liked them. I loved my burger, it was very tasty!
Now for the 'constructive criticism'. Unfortunately they fell flat in the vegetarian department. We came across the ferry to go mountain biking and after 3 hours we were famished. My friend is a vegetarian and so ahead of time I took a look at our dining options in the area. Being spring not everything is open in Crawford Bay. There's a pub that had some okay looking options for vegetarians but Refresh had a couple of exciting options including a green chile grilled cheese sandwich and an amazing sounding masala veggie burger made in house (spiced potato patty with carrot, peas and cauliflower). I'm not a vegetarian but I like a good homemade veggie burger so I was excited about it too. We arrived famished to discover that the menu online was last year's menu and this year's menu deleted the green chile grilled cheese and replaced the delicious veggie burger with a (yawn) portabella mushroom burger. Let's be honest, no one loves a portabella mushroom burger. They are tasty when they are hot but they are hot for about 30 seconds and then they are cold, wet, spongy, chewy things with gooshy liquid squirting out. We were there at lunch time so unfortunately we didn't have the option of 2 vegetarian pasta dishes or 3 vegetarian woodfired pizza's. It was a portabella mushroom burger or bust. Sure, she could have had a salad or a vegetarian spring roll or cauliflower bites but for substance after a 3 hour mountain bike ride her only option was the portabella mushroom burger which she ordered out of sheer hunger. My friend is not a complainer and she knew that I felt bad because I enticed her with promises of delicious things no longer on the menu but she was underwhelmed. Please get rid of the portabella mushroom burger and add a few options at lunch so that our poor vegetarian friends can enjoy themselves...
Read moreWaitress was incredibly slow to get to us, (about 10 min) when she finally did... she was extremely rude. We asked what the "greens" are with the steak, she scoffed and said "its the salad". And "if you can read, its over here" she pointed to a salad option... we had no idea as the names didnt match and sometimes with a steak its steamed veg option. My husband asked what came on the chicken burger, as he is allergic to dairy so we wanted to know..... she scoffed again and said "look, why dont I let you actually read the menu... I have a lot of other people to deal with and not this" We watched her walk over to the bar and stand their for about five minutes (helping no one) then she proceeded to walk over to two men next to us and chatted with them about life and all the things happy as can be for another five plus min.... she didnt clear a plate or refill a drink for them.... just banter... super busy I guess ?!! When she finally came back after ten ish min and took our order, our food took over 45 min..... us and 6 other patrons, 4 of whom already had their food when we walked in... she came over to our table and said "yeah sorry kitchen is very backed up, trust me they are making it extra good for you though" Then she ""forgot"" to bring our condiments three times as she walked by us setting tables for upcoming reservations and over half way though our meal and just kept saying "oh sorry I forgot about you" Ummmm...... Very odd experience, we still tipped and maintained a polite attitude. But for regular visitors to the surrounding area, that was the worst customer service we have received by far by any place...
Read moreOur server Terra was awesome ! Ordered two pasta dishes . Wife had the smoked chicken penne . She really enjoyed it. I had the tagliatelle and meatballs. It came lukewarm, after waiting 35 minutes I decided to not send it back. It was fairly average. Tried the sticky toffee pudding for dessert.. After 25 minutes, it came out… but here’s what funny … it was basically a heated up muffin with caramel sauce .. I promptly sent it back . Also...
