I heard about this place through a few YouTube videos and thought it would be a great place to stay while visiting Cape Scott.
I rode my motorcycle there and unfortunately, was unable to restart it. The owners of this pub (also adventure bike riders) could not have been more sympathetic and helpful in my time of need. I owe them not only this review, but a massive debt of gratitude, as they were very instrumental in my safe return home on the Mainland , with my bike.
The pub itself is obviously remote, but with the level of service and quality of food, you'd never know it. The food is fresh, delicious, well presented and served expeditiously. I really don't know what more you could ask for, especially given the location you're in. The wait staff are kind, courteous and helpful. In a day and age where it's tough to find good help, the owners struck gold with the people working for them.
The adventure huts suited my needs perfectly. They're newly built and very clean. Bring your own bedding. It's not a hotel. It's heated shelter with a bed, fridge and light. It's a great alternative to camping, particularly if rain is in the forecast. Remember where you are. It rains. A lot. The shower is at the pub and is available 24 hrs, along with the washrooms.
Unless you have unrealistic expectations, you're sure to be very satisfied with your visit. I plan on returning again, hopefully under more favourable...
Read moreIf you're an adventure motorcyclist, this is kind of a must-stop. The pub is owned by 12 ADV riders, it's really a hell of a long ways to go to enjoy this, and....it was worth it. (Holberg itself....not so much, lol!) Honestly, it's a very remote pub, supported by the Western Forest Products logging hub that is the "town", and hopefully the adv community will just continue to grow and develop the North Island 1000 route! The adventure huts are basic, but they are a pleasant change from tenting it everywhere else. The pub is a novelty...in the middle of nowhere, and we had a blast there. We were genuinely amazed that we had tasty food in less than 2 mins....100% truthful (that it was that fast, and that it was tasty!). Lots of beverages, and a good selection of standard, pub fare. Staff were friendly, food was hot and good, adventure huts had comfortable foamies/mattresses, and it was a great stop all around. I had heard about the Ibis a few years ago, had been wanting to make the haul out there, and I honestly was stoked to make it there and be part of the experience. Hats off to the 12 dudes that made...
Read moreWell butter my biscuit — the Scarlet Ibis is a hidden gem tucked at the edge of the world that’ll charm the socks off ya! From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed like long-lost kin. The folks working there? Absolutely top-shelf. Attentive, warm, and full of that small-town gold-hearted hospitality — made us feel right at home, like we’d wandered into Mama’s kitchen on a Sunday.
Now let’s talk about the food. Mercy! It reminded me of Howler’s in Ukee — only somehow with even more kick and soul. Every bite was packed with flavor, like the cook snuck in a little extra love when nobody was lookin’. If you’re hungry for something that’ll stick to your ribs and make you wanna write home about it, this is your spot.
And the view? Lawd have mercy. The kind that makes you slow down, sip your drink, and think maybe — just maybe — this is what heaven looks like if you take the scenic route. Between the rugged landscape and the peaceful stillness, it was downright spiritual.
If you’re anywhere near Holberg, do yourself a favor and pull over at the Scarlet Ibis. It’s not just a meal — it’s a...
