A Little Drumroll for Drumroaster Coffee — Cobble Hill’s Hidden Gem What do you get when you blend high-quality coffee, irresistible pastries, a modern West Coast vibe, and unexpectedly heartwarming connections? You get Drumroaster Coffee—a café that lives up to its name and then some. From the moment we stepped inside, we knew this wasn’t just another coffee stop. The place is beautifully designed—modern, warm, and full of character. You’ll find plenty of seating inside, and even a few outdoor spots for those sunny Vancouver Island days (yes, they do happen). The atmosphere is buzzing in the best way, the kind of space where creatives meet caffeine and community is brewed one cup at a time. The Coffee: Let’s just say—if our tastebuds could write this review themselves, they’d give Drumroaster a standing ovation. Smooth, rich, expertly roasted. No burnt beans or over-frothed milk here. This is coffee done with passion and precision. The Pastries: We didn’t plan to try three of them… but sometimes life makes decisions for you. And in this case, life chose well. Each pastry was crafted with real skill—layers of flavor, flaky perfection, not too sweet, not too safe. Just right. The Team: And just when we thought it couldn’t get better—we met Lavender. She greeted us with a smile bigger than the island itself. It wasn’t until later that we discovered she’s the sister of a good friend of ours from Calgary. What are the chances? But honestly, even if we hadn’t known her at all, we would’ve left just as impressed. Her kindness and joyful energy made our experience that much more memorable. The Extras: Don’t forget to browse the merch—stylish shirts, caps, and gear that you’d actually wear. And if you’re into home brewing, they’ve got top-tier coffee machines for sale that’ll make you think twice about ever going back to your drip brewer again. ⸻ Final Thoughts: Drumroaster isn’t just about coffee. It’s about connection. Quality. Beauty. Moments you didn’t plan for. In a world that often feels rushed and transactional, this place reminds you that there’s still room for warmth, for excellence, and for joy served by the cup. To the team—thank you. May you keep roasting beans and hearts alike. May everyone who walks through your doors leave a little more encouraged than when they came in.

Very popular place. Busy and noisey. Baking and premade sandwiches are fresh and available to choose from the display near the cashier. No obvious gluten-free choices. Service is stand in line at cashier but the line moves quickly. Sometimes difficult to have conversations in the place because of the noise. Small sitting area outfront, right beside road and parking lot is popular. Blankets are provided if it's a bit cold. Umbrella shade. Dogs allowed on patio, but space is tight. Sometimes no seating available because this is a busy popular coffee shop with lots of smiling customers visiting with others. Good lighting, large windows. I'd not feel comfortable taking up table space, lingering over a newspaper or laptop because this is a busy spot. I'm not sure if music is playing in the background. Coffee is roasted by the business. It is dark roasted coffee. Available to purchase by the pound. Consistently good basic sandwiches, baked goods, squares, and fresh coffee. There is an interesting display of different coffee machines. Merchandise available to purchase, thermal mugs and hats. Parking can be a challenge because the mall is a very busy place with very tight parking. Don't expect to be able to park close to this coffee shop. Because the parking lot is very busy it can be a bit nerve racking if you're not a confident driver. If you have a large vehicle you'll be parking away from this coffee shop. I'm not sure that any fancy coffees are available. One type of roast. Basic white mug or to-go in different sizes. Nothing fancy about this place, just quick service, consistently good food, with friendly staff. Washrooms are down the hall in a multi-business building. Some seating in the hallway is often available and it is a quieter spot.

First discovered this roaster in another coffee shop in Vernon (Ratio -- also awesome). The Kenyan beans were so delicious I went back and bought another bag the next day. First visit in person to Cobble Hill today and I am very impressed by the knowledgeable staff, delicious pastries and selection of coffee brewing gear. In addition, this is the first roaster or cafe I've come across on the island that does light roast, single origin, and has a transparent supply chain. I appreciate being able to learn about the variety of bean I'm drinking and the farmer who grew it. To top it off, Carson dropped what he was doing to give me a tour of the roasterie and answered all my questions. It was so nice to chat with someone who clearly has a passion for all things coffee. I highly recommend this business. 5 star's aren't enough! ☺️❤️

You actually deserve ZERO stars.

This goes back to late 2016 and I have refrained from writing this but every time I drive past there I remind myself of the disgusting manner in which I was treated.

The restaurant owner was obnoxiously rude. I sat down waiting for my wife to join me (she was running late so I caught up on some work) - so apparently I didn't order soon enough to his / his staff's liking. I spent about 30 minutes at a table waiting for my wife (the restaurant was not full) and then out of the blue he comes striding towards me and start telling me off from a distance, calling me names, "a camper" - "your type is a problem here in the Cowichan Valley" FU Mister Self Entitled, how dare you!

I tried to explain but he wouldn't have any of it so I let him have his self entitled moment to boost his ego a little more. Apparently he thought I was on Facebook so freaked out about his internet. My coat was placed on the other chair - that also freaked him out - would he have preferred it lying on the floor?? He literally chased me out of his shop. I'm a business owner myself and employ a number of people in the Cowichan Valley. I just had to laugh at his pathetic behaviour. If its such an issue, why don't YOU MR PERFECT RESTAURANTEUR use your common sense and try a different approach.

What about, Good Afternoon, we notice that you've been sitting here for a while, would you like to order something??? No way, just start calling me names from a distance, accusing me of always hanging out / camping in your coffee shop which is absolutely not true....let me tell you something Mister, I may not have spent a lot during the year with you but according to my accountant / Quickbooks recon, $763.48 for the year on coffee / light meals probably pays some of your bills. I can buy that stupid shop of yours with cash if I want to. Guess what, you will never see me again....and I am telling as many people as I possibly can to avoid your establishment like the plague because you do not deserve our money.

You're the perfect example of how not to treat your clients..granted, perhaps I should have ordered something when I arrived but you calling me names in public? You go and have a really nice...
