Staying at Ainsworth and thought it would be nice to try JB's just up the road. I've read that their fish and chips were really good and I was really looking forward to it. I should have followed my intuition and left when the grumpy old chef came out and yelled at my handicapped wife and I for parking "in front" of the door. When we pulled up there was no marked handicapped parking so we parked in the first location nearest the front door. Apparently our Sprinter Van being there pissed him off. I immediately ran out and backed it into the back of the parking lot by the dumpster. Ordered the fish and chips, my wife had the French dip sandwich. The fish was so old I got sick from just the few bites I had. The Cole slaw, or even the tartar sauce could also have contributed as they were both clearly old. My wife's French dip was pretty much the same story. When I was asked how I liked the fish and chips, I told the server that the fish tasted old. I was still charged full price for it. I was just happy to leave the place. Seemed like we were not at all welcome there. Read Amanda H. review, seems like her food experience was the same as mine. Do yourself a favor. For nearly the same prices, go to the restaurant at Ainsworth Hot Springs. Delightful people and wonderful food. Skip JB's. You can get better food ad a...
Read moreThis place is excellent for standard pub food (that's what we had). We took the kids here and they liked it as well. Almost all the food looked and tasted really good. Our server was friendly and came by enough times, given how busy the restaurant became. The prices are also very reasonable; despite the fact there has been 10%+ inflation over the past year, I feel that we were paying prices in a pub from like 10 years ago. And you get a lot of food. My wife had a salad with her burger and she dumped it on her play after eating the burger and it took up the whole plate! It could have been a full dish itself, not a side. I would definately return.
That said, there are a couple things I would change. The table was a little sticky - this is something I'd expect in the bar, but we were in the restaurant. The cheese on my burger looked like it was added after the burger came off the grill which made it look plasticy. It tasted ok; I thought it might be like a Kraft single but I think it actually was real cheese. I would suggest letting it melt while the burger is...
Read moreStopped in for late lunch at 4pm, dinner menu starts at 5. Really enjoyed the light and crispy halibut fish and chips and tuxedo cake dessert. Battered fish was fried perfectly. Cake was rich and creamy. Fries thick and perfect for malt vinegar and salt. My fiance had the steak sandwich, cooked as he asked, he enjoyed it. My mom ordered the cheeseburger, that was also delicious. My mom also ordered the Manhattan clam chowder, she wasn't a big fan of that but that can be a personal preference. I didn't mind it. The poutine with mushrooms and onions was also delicious. So far this restaurant is a hidden gem for locals. The decor is cute, old school fisherman's wharf meets 70s wood decor. Servers were wonderful. Looking forward to trying more of the menu items. Will have to also check out the bar below. Close to Ainsworth hot springs...
