This place is located by the dock in the lovely, quaint Deep Bay seaside village. Location is awesome , the restaurant could have a breathtakingly beautiful view. Unfortunately the view was blocked by the RV's & trailers parked accross the entire visible shoreline.
The interior has been recently renovated into a nautical theme - pub style restaurant. Outdoor seating available, when weather permitting.
Old location & name, new owners. Think it is a family run business, newly acquired & they are still trying to establish themselves. I must mention that we felt the staff was friendly, accommodating, though they did seem understaffed & overworked.
My husband & I just had finished a fairly difficult, muddy, morning hike so we arrived rather grubby, but with a healthy appetite. Hence we ordered the Nacho appetizer to share. In the majority of places, we are unable to eat the entire Nacho platter. For the first time ever or at least that we can recall, we both came away hungry.
Though the presentation was adorable, arrived at the table in a cast iron pan. That is where it ceased to be remarkable in any way.
The Nachos had a limited amount of chips (which were from the bag), minimal amount of shredded cheese, normal nacho ingredients like jalapeรฑo peppers, olives & green onions didn't make a appearance at all. Though I did note some red onion. Most disappointing was the salsa, straight from a commercial bottle, it tasted & looked like a inexpensive generic brand. Plus there wasn't even enough for those few chips. Honestly Chef, homemade salsa isn't that difficult to make.
For the price we paid, we felt cheated. The menu would be more appropriately priced for evening orders, not at lunch time. Considering the quantity & quality we received, I think we should have paid...
ย ย ย Read moreWhile they strongly recommend phone reservations, they do NOT answer the phone! Between myself and my husband, we placed 12 calls over a 3-day period before someone answered the phone, last weekend. The business phone message tells potential clients that they are "too busy and short of staff" and are "too stressed' to answer the phone. Even with a reservation (finally) last weekend, it took over one hour to get our food, and even then, the waitress brought the wrong order. When she served another (elderly) couple before us (who had come in after us) my husband complained - the waitress walked over to the elderly couple's table and abruptly took the food off of their table and slapped it onto ours. While we had ordered 2 meals, she had brought only one. It took another 25 minutes to get our other order brought to us. The food was greasy and sat like a rock in our stomachs for hours after and when my Corona came with a lemon wedge instead of lime, I had to go into the restaurant myself to get it. While Covid protocols had been followed the last time we were there, this time, there was NO HAND SANITIZER and NO SEPARATE WAY OUT - which are Covid protocols!! So.....while the view is pretty, this restaurant is clearly currently unsafe and clients are blatantly made to feel like an intrusion. There is a lovely fish taco bus also on the water and just down the highway - i recommend you go there and not...
ย ย ย Read moreMy wife and I drove to Deep Bay from Comox to support local Restaurants Last weekend. We decided to ease into eating out With the Take Away option. We paid and included a tip as we understand itโs hard for servers Under todayโs situation. We wandered down to the water by the Campgrounds and sat at an old picnic table in the campground that We were comfortable at as it was outside and distant from others. The Halibut Fish & Chips were good and so were the deep fried shrimp. We thought that was great so we went back this weekend and noticed That the picnic tables by the water were roped off with signs all round. We went to order our lunch and were told that the picnic tables were not available for take out orders just inside service..Kind of confused We asked what that meant and were told you could not order Take away And sit out at theIf picnic tables down by the water however if you ordered off the eat in menu you could sit there and they would serve you.. How dumb is that we thought and then realized that they were trying to Ensure tipping that often is not done on take away.. Offended at this situation and feeling that Ship & Shores was trying to Gouge their customers we left and drove back to Comox.. It would be like the food trucks wanting tips for table service on the park bench. The customer service Or lack of at this place will cause us never to return and to advise all those we know to...
