First time here. First impressions mean a lot if you want return business and recommendations. The service was very poor. No hello, no eye contact, no acknowledgment. When the waitress finally came to the register to take our takeout order, all she said was “what do you want” and then awaited her tip. Not sure what for. She seemed highly irritated that we were bothering her. We were the only people in the restaurant.
We walked around the interior while waiting for our 2 meals. The entire place needs a deep down cleaning, windows and sills washed, new flooring and new booth coverings as some were literally in shreds. Really rundown inside and out. I used the bathroom—filthy. Doors are soooo gross and dirty! Ive seen cleaner bathrooms at a lumber mill with 95 male employees. If the bathrooms look like this…what does the kitchen look like? But we were starving, had driven an hour, it was raining, and we’d heard great things about the food.
Huge menu. Lots of different burgers but I noticed no vegetarian option. One burger (no fries) and one fish and chips. $44. No drinks. The “Famous” pie case was covered in fingerprints and only had 2 pies that did not look appetizing at all. Great old country music playing. Loved the old signs displayed.
Waitress was friendly as we were leaving lol. We are really friendly people but she was not interested in any chit chat whatsoever. We left and ate in the car up the road. The burger was huge and my husband really enjoyed it. Fish and chips were fine—not great—fish was thin & mushy. Good fries but really need salt!! Portions are big. Coleslaw was average at best.
Come for the food….enjoy the music and old signs while you wait….and take your food out and enjoy...
Read moreOh where to even begin with this place! We stayed nearby for the weekend and my husband, after several years of pointing out High Five during our travels but somehow never stopping in, suggested we go in for milkshakes. I, extremely reluctant as I do not like milkshakes, decided to get a burger instead. He had a butter rum shake and I had a cheddar bacon. Well, let me tell you. His milkshake was so dang good I ate/drank dang near half on the poor guy then sent him in to buy another 😂 I tried the old fashioned root beer which became an immediate favorite and honestly I've been thinking about it ever since (we live 7 hours away). We liked our meal so much we decided to go again for breakfast, enjoying the Homer breakfast with farmer sausage.. delicious hollandaise!! Then again for dinner when we got the amazing mac and cheese which had the perfect amount of cheesy sauce, and the fish and chips which personally I found to be a touch overdone but was very good and tasted fresh. We enjoyed our meals and service so much that we decided it will always be our go-to when traveling through or staying in the park. Oh!!! And the baked goods. My God. I told my husband to grab it all and run. Everything we tried was delicious... and I can't wait to come back and try a good home made coconut cream pie! The chocolate was so delightful.. and the apple crisp! Delicious and HUGE portions people... this is the good stuff!!!! Worth mentioning that the iced coffee was also on par. Hats off! Thank you...
Read moreI'm still reeling from my visit to this fabulous 50's diner! The moment I stepped inside, I was transported to a bygone era of poodle skirts, jukeboxes, and milkshakes. But what truly made my experience stand out was our waitress – the best I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing!
Waitress Extraordinaire Our server, with warm smile treated us to a delightful welcome. Her attentiveness, knowledge of the menu, and infectious enthusiasm made our dining experience truly unforgettable.
Foodie Faves The cuisine was just as impressive as the service. I indulged in the signature "Big Fort" burger, (still trying to wrap my mind around how any one can wrap their mouth around it) featuring 2 juicy patty, crispy bacon, melted cheddar, and splurged with side of Cajun fries. My companion raved about the "Fabulous Fifties" milkshake, a decadent blend of hard vanilla ice cream, strawberry & banana syrup.
Highlights: Impeccable service from our fabulous waitress Delicious, nostalgic American classics Fun, lively atmosphere that'll transport you back in time
