Ivey Dining Room Benmiller — Restaurant in Ashfield–Colborne–Wawanosh

2025 - It pains me to drop my review from 5 stars to 2 stars but as a regular guest coming for almost 5 years, this time around was a disappointment. We used to adore the Ivey but it’s now a mess. Most of the servers were lovely. Especially Jackson, he provided excellent service. That’s the highlight.

For an award winning restaurant the food was not up to par. Brunch was much smaller then what we’re used to, we had salt rather than sugar put on our crème brûlée, my eggs were severely overcooked, bacon was tough, my moms onion soup was pretty much mush, and our omelettes were cold. We brought all these issues to the restaurants attention and they were extremely apologetic which is fine, but when we have that many food issues within one stay when we are used to excellence and perfection from the dining room - it doesn’t mean much. It was very inconsistent and disappointing to say the least :(

I took my mom here today for an early Mother’s Day lunch, and it was an amazing experience. We have lived in the area and never got around to checking it out. I believe his name was Jackson who took care of us, and he single handedly made the experience one to remember. The inn and the dining room were beautiful, and he sat us right by some large windows with a great view of the river. He was so pleasant to deal with and really embodied the peaceful tranquility that the Inn offers! The food was also amazing. We had a lovely dinner during our stay at the Benmiller Inn and Spa. The food is clearly being led by someone with expertise in fine dining. Food was nicely prepared and presentation was excellent. The serving staff are young and I’m glad to see that management is providing these opportunities. However, it would be nice to see them receive additional training. They often seemed uncertain about how to interact with, and serve guests.
