I’ve only been here twice. Once with some co workers and it was really good. I was having a day trip with my 12 year old to the IWK from PEI and on the way home I wanted to take her there because the last time I was there the experience was really good. Both myself and my daughter are vegetarian. They have an amazing option that you can order any burger and get it as a beyond burger, vegetarian option. We get seated, I immediately catch on to the fact our waitress is not happy. Very rude. Gave us our drinks and when my daughter and I said thank you she didn’t even acknowledge us. Fine. She did the same thing to the table behind my fighter and I caught eyes with the lady seated there and we both made a face and laughed it off. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger with beyond meat. Very rudely she was asked if she wanted the cheese, “because that’s not vegetarian” is what she was told. My 12 year old told her she was vegetarian not vegan and still wanted cheese. I ordered mine the same (vegetarian) and the waitress was off without a word. We received our meals and sitting on top of mine was two giant slices of bacon. Which if I was veg. Would have been great. I picked it off and tried to eat my burger as I don’t like to complain. I couldn’t do it. Then my daughter called out to me and there was a giant hair in hers. I was livid, for the first time ever I was going to say something. Another waitress (Wendy) came to our table to check on us and I told her how disappointed I was there was bacon on my veggie burger when I was criticized about cheese. And my daughter had hair in hers. She immediately apologized took the plates and comped our orders which we did the onion rings and fries. She came over and offered us free slices of cake (which they are famous for) and told us she also has vegetarian daughters and it was unacceptable that happened to us. I had seen her earlier when we were seated and thought “why couldn’t we have her as our waitress” she was so friendly and bubbly. She was actually just in break and was supposed to be ours from the start. Bad timing I guess. Wendy truly turned what would have been a really bad experience into a refreshing moment! I actually felt bad afterwards even saying something because she was so...
Read moreWe travelled here from Alberta to visit family, and my husband wanted me to experience the Irving Big Stop that he ate at for many, many years.
First of all, we were served by the sweetest gal I’ve ever met! Her name is Christine, and she made us feel not only at home, but truly like we were long lost friends that she was delighted to catch up with! What a beautiful person she is - so fun to talk with and so genuine and kind! Thank you Christine, for making my first time in your restaurant an experience that will have me counting the hours and days until I’m able to come back again!!
As for the food, my husband described the desserts as the absolute biggest and best you would ever get ANYWHERE!
Well he did not lie!
We decided to be good, and not only have dessert (haha) so we started with sharing an order of the fish and chips, which was really good! The fish was light and flaky, and really tasty!
Then, the pièce de resistance… and the real reason for coming… Dessert!! We each had a slice of chocolate cake, his with the boiled frosting and mine with the peanut butter frosting and chocolate drizzle… OH. MY. WORD!!! These were the most massive pieces of cake I’ve ever seen in my life! And SO. FREAKING. GOOD! Good actually doesn’t even begin to describe them. Truly. My husband’s boiled frosting was so generously piled on top of the cake that you know it was purposefully made for sharing! 😃 And the super rich peanut butter frosting was superbly balanced with the chocolate ganache drizzle in a proportion that was absolutely magical!! The decadent masterpiece desserts have clearly been created by experienced hands, that have perfected the art of appeasing dessert-lovers’ delights. I can see why this Big Stop is held in such high regard. If they are not world famous, they really should be!!
Oh, and I could not eat the entire piece of cake… I’m excited for my midnight snack later…!!!
Thank you Christine, for a wonderful...
Read moreSeven weeks ago, I ordered a crispy chicken wrap which had barely any chicken on it. When I called to inform the manager about the issue and suggest they inform the cooks to prevent it from happening to others, instead, the manager, whom I mistakenly noted as Melissa, pleasantly surprised me by offering me a free meal and dessert. Melissa wrote down my name and number.
Today, when I called to redeem it, the manager, Roxy, insisted there was no manager named Melissa. Despite providing my name and number, (and calling from the number they had noted) she seemed skeptical, implying I was lying. I must have just noted her name down wrong as I was in the car which is usually hard to hear. Nonetheless, she processed my order, sounding annoyed. After I thanked her, she hung up without any acknowledgment.
Upon receiving the food, it initially looked good, but there were hardly any fries, and there was burnt beef and burnt bits scattered throughout, as seen in the picture from their grill. Additionally, there appeared to be a small hair, though it may have been plastic from the container. But regardless, unacceptable.
Feeling already disheartened by being made to feel like a liar, I didn’t bother calling back after the unpleasant interaction with Roxy. I can’t see...
