We had booked a night here through Groupon and although we obviously paid a reduced rate I feel sorry for the clients who paid full price. On arrival there is no check in or reception so we had to track down the barmaid who then had to find our room key etc. The room was tiny.....you had to walk sideways all around the bed. The ensuite (although grateful for an ensuite) was obviously tiny also and when you showered the water kept going hot and cold and there is no room for you to back away from the jet. The bed was probably a double not a queen bed and the window of the room looks out onto a balcony which is nice although other guests on your floor go and sit there also and can see straight into your window so we had to keep the blind down all the time (and there was no room for us to sit outside as other guests took up the room)||The meal which was included in the Groupon I have to say was the redeeming feature. i would eat there again for sure ...it was lovely. When we got up in the morning there wasn't a soul around to check us out or ask how our stay was (not surprising as I imagine there are not always good comments) We left our key in a bowl on the stairs.||Won't stay...
Read moreAn old, but renovated, economic vintage hotel. The rooms are small because 100 years ago that was the standard size. Owner added a private bathroom with shower in each room because I am not sure if there were such facilities in those years. The are rooms with one double bed for couples or two double beds for family. The mattresses are good quality which is important for a good sleep. Children can play in large corridors (if they don't make too much noise). There is no TV in each room, but there is a TV viewing room (with DVD player!). We bought a package with an included three-course dinner and the food was excellent. During the summer there is a nice terrasse. There is not much to do in Ayer's Cliff but you can travel around to nearby North Hathley, Standead, and Magog to stay busy; you can also go skying to nearby mountains during winter. There is a walking/biking trail behing the hotel. The Eastern Township is a place to go for the scenic views.
P.S. Ask for a room in the back if you want a quiet place to sleep because the front rooms face Main street which is noisy with cars and trucks, unless you want a balcony view on...
Read moreWe stayed for one night and booked through Expedia which showed lowered prices to what they usually charge. Initially they put us in a small room that all you could smell was smoke and gave us a broken fan since the building is old and doesn't have HVAC system. After showing the manager the price we paid they finally agreed to put us in a different room facing the main entrance. The second room we stayed was bit bigger and didn't have a broken fan this time. For $100 a night don't expect a luxury stay. The only okay thing about the room was the bed, but even the bed was too short. I'm not sure if it was a standard size back in the days.
Around there is a good cafe (cafe folies) which has better food for breakfast and brunch. Prices are much better than the hotel/bar food and youd have a better experience there.
The hotel/bar have a parking in the back as well which was convenient.
Overall, I would suggest looking around to stay somewhere else near Magog or North Hatley. They have more and better hotels/B&Bs with better prices and amenities which would make a better...
