“Best seafood chowder on the East Coast, period. A must try.”
My wife, daughters and I were driving from Toronto, Ontario to PEI. After driving the second leg of our trip, we needed to make a stop past the Confederation Bridge. With all its colours and inviting patio, Tastee Dawgs seemed like the place.
Rudy and Denise were so inviting and friendly. They were the first people we spoke to in PEI. We ordered lobster rolls and seafood chowder on a whim. I can honestly say that it was the best seafood chowder that we have ever had in our entire lives. The lobster roll was pure lobster and was not cheap filler material. We would consider that we have a pretty good diverse palette and have been to many restaurants across Canada. At first, I thought maybe we were just hungry, but after leaving Tastee Dawgs we spent over a week on the east coast including PEI and Nova Scotia. I ordered seafood chowder at almost every restaurant we went to. Too runny. Too salty. Too buttery. Feel heavy afterwards, etc. Not enough seafood. You name it.
We liked Rudy’s seafood chowder so much that we made the drive back out through the bridge (as opposed to the Ferry) so we could end our trip with the same experience, food and seafood chowder. We watched as another couple tried Rudy’s seafood chowder after already finishing their meal (they had haddock burger and loved it), they then ordered 2 bowls of seafood chowder to go because it was that good. After trying the chowder for the second time (and after our comparative travels on the east coast) there was no doubt again that this is the best seafood chowder out there period.
There is something very inviting about Rudy and Denise’s shop. Particularly, what they are doing with their seafood chowder is truly special. Rudy told us it is about a 2 hour process daily to prepare the chowder. The thickness, and well proportioned sizes of each ingredient shows the time, care and thought put into the recipe. Each spoonful is fantastic to the drop. If Rudy and Denise were to enter into a seafood chowder competition, I believe they should win or at least come in the top 3 standings.
I have never taken the time to rate anyone on Google before but Rudy and Denise deserve it. They are also so humble about the food quality and service they provide. We are looking forward to our next trip out to PEI already. Thank you Rudy and Denise! See you...
Read moreMy gf and I rode out to Borden-Carleton for lunch and dropped in to Rudy’s as we’d heard good things about it. There were a few people in line waiting for their meals when we arrived, but the wait wasn’t very long at all, and with four or five picnic tables outside on the deck with umbrellas we had our choice of tables while waiting for our order that consisted of the Chicken Tenders and fries for Caroline and the Krispy Chicken Burger with fries for myself.
The burger was good, a nice portion of white breast meat battered in a crisp breading with few spices that gave it a bit of zest. The coleslaw, mayonnaise and pickle combination was lovely, and I admit to bit of surprise as I love coleslaw on the side but not usually on my burger. They’d cooked it to perfection as the burger was a wee bit juicy while still fully cooked and I enjoyed it bit more than I was expecting.
Caroline’s chicken tenders were strips of white breast meat, none of that chopped and reformed stuff. The bites she shared with me were good, although the tiny wee dipping sauce made her have to trim the wider pieces before she could dip them into her plum sauce.
The fries were seasoned bag fries, not fresh cut and I was prepared to be disappointed but they were better than I expected, Caroline having hers with a side of brown gravy and mine with ketchup packets drizzled over them.
We enjoyed both of our meals, and I’d have the chicken sandwich again if I went back, but would love to try their fried...
Read moreWorst customer service ever! Not a smile out of the girl serving us and she got angry when asked what she said. Asking for anything was like a big deal. The food was subpar, for them to say the chicken was island famous is a false statement, kfc has better chicken. The famous burger looked like a Costco burger and had a squirt of ketchup and nothing else on it and we had to go ask for mayo for the chicken burger as they barely put any on it. Also people mentioning lobster rolls and chowder? There was none of that on the menu! Would never recommend,...
