To call the Hollow Log Cafe an excellent Roadside Diner would be selling it short.Trudy and I stopped in for a big meal after a day long hike at Keji. I had the hot hamburger dinner and she had chicken fingers and fries. Both are home made, fresh and tasty. We didn't stay for coffee or dessert although it was tempting considering the number of specialty pies and cakes they had displayed. We left just as the Sunday dinner rush started to completely fill the place. They were perhaps a little short-staffed but our waiter was attentive, composed and provided personable service. They have plenty of parking plus a play area outside next to the restaurant. It's a very welcoming and nicely styled comfy cozy restaurant where you don't feel rushed.

This place is a hidden gem. We stopped on our way to another city and this was a real surprise. It is a cozy little restaurant where it looked like everybody knew everybody. We felt kind of an odd object there but the server was really nice and made recommendations. We had chowder which was probably the best of our entire trip and fish and chips. I did not like the batter but the fish was good and the fries were nice and crispy. The food took some time and the service was a bit slow but everything is made to order and fresh. This stop is a must. Try them!

Great little stop in or takeout eatery. Had a old fashioned club with cheese and real turkey. Fries were spot on (right off the potato). My only complain are the hours of operation with the nearby campgrounds. Being that there are so few eateries nearby it would be nice if they had earlier hours of operation prior to park events in the morning. Little playground nearby but watch your kids as there was a uncovered electrical outlet up there.

Before going to this place the first time, we looked up reviews in search of choice of establishments in the area. While they were not great we thought it best to try ourselves (and it's the only place for miles and miles of where we were).

I can see now that the reason for the existence of the cafe is just that. Nowhere else local to go.

I will for sure give that portions are great. So we did give it a second go. But that's sort of where it ends.

The service was slow and plodding both times, yet it was near empty. No one smiled. On one visit it felt like we walked in on private time as staff played with visiting babies and talked about personal interests while we waited for so much as an offer of coffee. Horribly bad was that after baby play no hands were washed before getting back to serving terminally tepid coffee. On the other visit it was just ..slow and dull.

That the business is family run (seen later on Trip Adviser as a reason for being slow) is no excuse for slow, bland service. It speaks poorly of ones family more than anything as most businesses in the surrounding areas are family run and do a great job.

We now visit every summer for three months as well as Christmas, and have committed to a nice drive out to Bridgewater or Digby this year as opposed to putting money here. It's just not worth it, although I am sure...

Edit: Let me make this crystal clear: my 2-star review was based on three separate visits to your restaurant. Each one involved dismissive, borderline rude service and underwhelming food. So no—it wasn’t about “the one day you were closed.” That assumption wasn’t just wrong; it was embarrassingly arrogant.

Your response wasn’t an attempt to understand or grow—it was a sarcastic, defensive swipe at a customer who didn’t praise you. Instead of reaching out like a professional, you decided to mock my review, invoke my contributions like it’s a popularity contest, and try to shame me for leaving an honest opinion. That’s petty, and honestly, pathetic.

Hospitality isn’t just about food—it’s about how you treat people. And based on the way you’ve publicly attacked others who left less-than-glowing feedback, this isn’t a one-off. It’s a pattern. You clearly don’t want feedback—you want applause.

If you put half the energy into customer service that you do into crafting condescending clapbacks, maybe you’d earn the respect you’re so desperate...

Decent food for a alright price. We ordered about 10 minutes before we arrived, but still had to wait about 30 minutes past that, although it was a busy Saturday night. Three of us ordered club sandwiches, which I would recommend. They were large and came with fries, but no coleslaw, as it said on the menu. One ordered the pulled pork panini, which was made on a regular piece of bread, and was quite small overall. The price is right for what we got.

Edit: Replying to your reply to clarify a few things. First of all, we ordered 10 minutes ahead, and waited 30 minutes after we arrived, so 40 minute wait total, in case that wasn't clear. We very much appreciate that it could take longer due to covid precautions, and we are grateful that you are doing that. Indeed somebody in our group did not enjoy their panini, but in fact I was very satisfied with my club sandwich. Therefore, I would not have ruled out coming back to your restaurant, had it not been for your reply, in which you outright mocked and...
