Up early and running some errands in Silver Springs , the partner and I were hungering for some breakfast of the non fast food variety, and as CLM had great reviews, we thought we'd stop in.
When we arrived around 9:15, there were maybe two or three empty seats and those were quickly claimed. A good sign, to be sure
I opted for the breakfast bagel with bacon, and my partner threw caution to the wind and had a grilled cheese for breakfast. We also had a slice of the homemade banana bread, which was terrific.
The breakfast bagel was a good size with a decent amount of bacon, egg and cheese and I enjoyed it.
The grilled cheese was less impressive. The bread was crispy and the cheese that was there was melty and tasty, but there was probably about 1/4 of the bread discarded because there was no cheese, so it was just dry bread.
Both mains were lacking in any sort of side. Fruit or hash browns would go a long way to improving the value.
A lack of diet coke in the cooler was also a mark against.
All in all, I can see cafe Le Matin being a good stop for locals who want a simple, straightforward, low cost breakfast, but we won't be making a trip specifically up here again.
The above with a can of soda and a bottle of Snapple...

I assume most their food comes from Costco. Nothing wrong with that, but it all tastes familiar, lacking this unique restaurant/café flare, which I certainly expected from an overwhelming barrage of five star reviews. I ordered French toast which came soggy and undercooked. Wife had a pair of Egg Benedicts. You don't get to choose how you like your eggs done (poached medium by default I guess) all it was, is an English muffin bun with Costco back bacon and egg coated with thick layer of Sause. Potato wedges were dry and crumbly on the inside.
Service:
We were not greeted as we walked in to the Café. There were two patrons besides us and three staff members behind the counters. I was the first to brake the silence and say hi to the cashier. Staff seemed friendly, but nobody came to ask how the food was after the first bites, therefore I had no-one to tell that my French toast was undercooked. The fact that they asked for tips at the till to me implies a certain level of service they are expected to provide and there were none.
Atmosphere:
Chairs and tables have seen better days clean but worn. Bring a coat if you are sensitive to air-conditioning it blows right on top of you and there no tables to...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem. Initially, we thought it was a little pricey but the portion sizes are massive. I got a baby Benny and my boyfriend got a bulgogi sub and oh my...they were both delicious. The sub was a little heavy but it comes with a nice side salad to freshen it up. The salad was probably the freshest I've had in Calgary- there were absolutely no brown spots anywhere and it comes with some sliced apples! My baby Benny was super delicious. The hollandaise sauce was buttery and almost cheesy when mixed with the egg yolk. I was expecting it to be small but the platter was gigantic! It had lots of potatoes and even a lovely variety of fruit. I love all the fruit they put on their plates. We walked away with left overs for later. We'll definitely be coming back here. The mochachino was not too sweet with a good balance of...
