WE ARE SO LUCKING TO HAVE AMAZING DINING IN...
Read moreI visited this restaurant for lunch last week with my mother and nephews. I had been looking forward to trying it and drove from Halifax.
I ordered the grilled cheese special and an Earl Grey Sour. The cocktail was very disappointing—it was a small pour, tasted mostly of oxidized or "plastic lemon" (not fresh), and had no noticeable Earl Grey flavour whatsoever despite its name. The drink menu also mentioned egg white foam, but mine had none. For $15, it was a waste.
One of my nephews, a picky eater, asked for a plain hamburger without the toppings from the mushroom burger special. However, we were still charged the full price, despite it not including any of the specialty ingredients. My other nephew ordered a Shirley Temple and said it tasted like orange juice with soda. There was no grenadine at all; it was orange.
The food itself was average. My grilled cheese started off fine, but by the end, the richness was overwhelming, and I couldn’t finish it. Service was polite and atmosphere was good, though I didn’t feel comfortable bringing up these issues at the time. I initially planned to let this all go, as I normally would with a disappointing restaurant experience, but a week later, it’s still on my mind, so I felt the need to share it.
EDIT: Thanks for the reply. Again, I did not feel comfortable bringing up these issues at the time with my server -- though they were very nice, I felt at the time that if I had complained they would have "turned on me". It was just a vibe I had. You know when you interact with someone, you get a sense of what you should and should not say. And learning here that they claimed I requested no egg white when I didn't mention egg white to them at all, tends to make me glad I didn't have that...
Read moreWe were staying just a few doors down at the Farmhouse Inn B&B, which recommended Dickie Baxter. We were going to drive several miles but decided to walk just a few hundred feet and we are so glad. The atmosphere was so cozy and the food was so delicious. We’ve been having the same style seafood for quite some time coming up through Maine and New Brunswick and then Nova Scotia. Their chef puts an amazing twist on many of the items. We had a fish, scallop, shrimp, lobster chowder that was so different so delightful, it was broth-based instead of cream based, I’ve never had the style before and was so delighted. We then had the seared sea scallops, which were so fresh, so beautifully seared and uniquely seasoned, they melted in your mouth. Bella, our server, so energetic and professional. When we came in for dinner, there was only about five or six people in the restaurant, within 30 minutes there was 40 to 50 people and even though she was working it by herself, she never became overwhelmed. Her energy and professionalism were absolutely amazing. for the size of the restaurant there were many wine choices for us to choose from. Bella recommended a couple of different types, a bubbly, a white and a red and they all were terrific. If you are in Canning or anywhere near Wolfsville, make a trip to Dixie Baxter, taproom and bistro you will not be...
