Chez Camille in Cap-Pele is a well-known diner, renowned for being a top contender in the region. In the past, I would stop by for a quick snack or ice cream on my way to the beach, and their food was always delightful. However, my recent visit was disappointing and lacked the charm it once had.
The menu remains reasonably priced, a relief in today's overinflated economy. We ordered a large and small poutine and a cheeseburger. Despite the place being nearly empty and no one ahead of us, we were told to expect a 15-minute wait, which was accurate.
Initially, the generous amount of cheese on the poutine was promising. However, I quickly noticed that my large poutine was barely larger than my son's small one. His container was full, while mine was noticeably less so. The burger was a decent size with an adequate amount of toppings.
Unfortunately, the fries were undercooked. Given that they appeared to be prefried, they should have crisped up more quickly. The poutine sauce was mediocre, bordering on bland. The most disappointing part was the burger, which was extremely dry. It seemed as though it had been cooked the previous day and then reheated. I certainly would not recommend it.
On a positive note, the small ice cream cone was generously sized and served in a wafer cone, much to my son's delight.
While the diner has undergone a clean remodel of its dining area and patio, much of its old charm has vanished. The once delicious food has become dry and tasteless. I hope they can rekindle the magic that made them a favorite in the first...
Read moreJust left there, very disappointed, as the quality and service has completely plummeted. The prices remain the same, but the lineups are twice as long and the portions are at least 30% smaller. Ordered the Maria Special and there was 1 piece of fish and maybe 10 clams of which maybe 3 were a reasonable size. The rest were remnant pieces of batter. Even the fries were tiny and cooked to death. How do you mess up frozen french fries? I hate to say it, but never again. It’s finally “just another tourist trap”. Save your money and time and go somewhere else. After tip, it was $29 each which in a small village in NB is highway robbery if the quality isn’t there. So annoyed that I wasted 2 hours from start to finish. It has to be bad for me to...
Read moreI went to Chez Camille for lunch today. I waited a year for their clams because last summer they were sold out. It was so worth the wait! The service was great and I was served by two different women working there. I got the large clams which I think was $26. They were great!!! They were big, juicy and flavourful. Plus, unlike other places I’ve been to, there were a lot of clams- a lot! There was a lot of fries too but they didn’t do the more fries then clams thing. I’ll definitely be back...
