I have never actually eaten at this restaurant. I have always been curious about it the many times I have driven by but it's a bit out of the way. One day rather than going to our usual favourite we decided to give it a try. We were especially excited after reading that it got decent reviews but that quickly turned to frustration. First off, I couldn't get through to them on the phone to place a pick up order - I tried for a good 25 minutes of calling back to back but each time I got a message saying "this caller is temporarily unavailable" (which normally means it's busy). Finally, after no luck we decided to drive there. According to the hours listed on their website and road sign, they should have been open for at least another 30 minutes but their open sign was not lit. However, right as we pulled up we saw someone going in. On the door was a big sign that said to call ahead first and then drive to the pick up window on the side. When we looked in the front window we saw people (workers we assumed) inside, the phone ringing (no one answering) and all they did was point us over to their pick up window. When we drove over to it no one answered. If they were closed for some reason outside of their normal hours, they should have had a sign on their door explaining this. Finally, fed up we left and called our favourite place which our call was answered after 1 ring. This experience left a terrible taste in my mouth and I don't think I will...
Read morePeople was lovely. unfortunately though the water tasted as though it had a urinal cake to disinfect it or something alike to that. I got the 1 person dinner number 6. the noodles tasted like chemicals as well as the sweet and sour pork. the shredded ginger beef tasted fine to me but my mom who was eating it as well said it tasted like chemicals also. unfortunatly not the best experience there I would say over the one thing to be really careful about is the water there I'm not local to castlegar and don't drink the city water there generally so I can't say whether it was the city water or just J & V restaurant. It could just be bad luck that one time. I'm not saying to not give it a chance I'm just saying to be aware. I hope this...
Read moreYesterday I ordered their House Special Chow Mein. Well, they must have just taken the pac of noodles and dumped them straight in the take out container, then tossed a couple of scoops of veggies and such on top. This Chow Mein, called Cantonese Chow Mein at other establishment is one of my absolute favorites, and I have been ordering it for 40 or so years. I can safely say that this was the worst that I have ever had. I also ordered a combo meal, which left a lot to be desired as well. Rest assured that I will never order so much as a fortune cookie from this establishment again. $50 just wasted, and will feed the...
