Cute Inn with a cool little pub. We only stayed one night and really enjoyed our experience. Dinner was good but pricey. Had the Green Thai curry Haddock. Flavour was great but for the price I would have expected a bigger piece of fish. Mussels were good but again small portion for the cost. I like a lot of broth with my mussels and this did not have it. Flavour, again, was good. My daughter had the Maple Bourbon Bacon wrapped scallops and she still remembers them They were great. Breakfast brought to the room (scrambled egg wrap with bacon , lettuce and tomato) in the AM was very tasty. I'm a big guy and would have liked more but it did the trick. Overall a great experience and would definitely stay there again for a longer period. The pub was closed for the general public the evening we were there so I don't know how the activity in the pub would affect noise levels in the room. Note: I don't know what food costs are like in Cape Breton but high restaurant food costs were encountered throughout our trip. Everyone was charging Vancouver downtown menu pricing within a casual restaurant environment.

Stayed here with a small group of friends this weekend and it was so great. The rooms are clean and cozy and we had a great dinner in the pub. Making things extremely impressive was that a number of staff called off due to a pending snow storm but the owners pulled off an amazing meal and fantastic service by themselves. Tip: don't skip the bacon wrapped scallops and if you get nachos, ask for the chipotle BBQ sauce! The pub is great for eating and hanging out by the fireplace. They have a great selection of local beers on tap and some of the best gin and tonics we ever had made with Nova Scotia gin. A beautiful breakfast was delivered to our door in the morning, coffee and all. This was a really great little staycation getaway for our small group. Hats off to the owners for being such great hosts!

We stayed at the Cottage for a few days and it felt like we were home. Our stay there was planned way ahead of time but when we realized we needed a couple more days , the owner, Matt, was able to secure our extension without any issues . Talking about Matt, he was welcomy, helpful, joyfull , easy going , just an amazing host ! We haven't had the chance to experience the pub and the full extent of the menu offered but people around town highly recommend the spot . If it wasn't for the fact that we found a new home , I would've wanted to stay there a couple more weeks . Thank you so much for making us enjoy our first few days in Nova Scotia . New to d'Escousse or passing by , The Groundswell is definitely a place you need to stop at .

My partner and I go for date nights here even when I’m not serving on the floor. It’s simple, we love it. New owners Matt and Colleen created a warm earthy chill atmosphere that has it all. It feels like you are at your friends for dinner. Quite often guests will turn and chat amongst each other as total strangers. It’s the perfect place to unwind. I see first hand each dish that comes out of the kitchen. I am a foodie. These are home made, from scratch. Colleen will use fresh spices from the garden and harvest most foods locally within 50km, and Matt’s pizza sauce is delicious!! Seafood linguini loaded, their signature burger, maple bourbon bacon wrap scallops and Thai mussels are just a few of my personal favourites! I work here because I am proud of what I bring to the table. It’s hot, fresh and portion sizes are excellent. I’ve been a server off and on the past 20 years with pubs, Greek food, and fine dining and these guys brought it all together. The rooms are Beatle themes, eclectic distressed decor throughout. Events are a blast! They bring in excellent entertainment and comedians, oyster night, New Years, you name it. We have attended several events and I always tell folks to buy tickets early so you get good seats! Thé live Music is quality and the sound/ acoustics are deep and rich not brassy and annoying. Makes you want to linger with a cold one even longer. What can I say, it’s my kind of perfect and my belly feels good after not sluggish. My guy LOVES the pasta dishes. Some might feel my review is bias I guess but I truly feel you will love your stay at The Groundswell. It’s a vibe you’ll...

We stayed at this cottage with a group of friends. The cottage itself is beautiful and the view is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing overall. While the cottage is fully equipped for cooking, it lacked many basics you’d expect at this price point—no dish/drying cloths, no cleaner, no hand soap, no laundry pods, no paper towel, and only one roll of toilet paper for several guests. Cleanliness was also an issue in general, the bathroom, fridge, cupboards and dishes were the most concerning, and the cot had a large stain on it. To make matters worse, there was a bird stuck in one of the walls in which the host dislosed could be the case. We could hear him stuck in the wall, trying to get out :( We contacted the host multiple times over two days and never received a response. The host was very personable when we first arrived but for nearly $500 per night, the lack of care and attention to detail left us very disappointed. Sadly, we would not book here again. One of restaurants waitress' lacked personality, experience, knowledge, and care. The hamburgers were undercooked and for a sparce crowd, the wait time was long! Recommendation: Most Aribnbs we've stayed at are fully equipped with Keruregs and pods, some have some water and baskets of snacks, salt and pepper, etc. When we leave we can clean the cottage with the cleaner provided, and throw some towels or the sheets in the washer before we leave to help get them started. These added touches aren't required, they just make you feel more throught about...
