OK. First. Set realistic expectations for the middle of nowhere with a year round population of under 100. That said....
The good: This place was adequate for one night. We were in Room 1 (end room) with two beds, a table with two chairs, TV, mini fridge, sizeable dresser and plenty of room to spread out. We were able to park right next to our room to unload/load. Very convenient. The price was very reasonable! Big pro!
The eyebrow raising observations: The shower was old and has rust stains which made cleanliness nearly impossible to see. So much so that we decided to skip a shower. (I have no doubt it was clean, just looked questionable.) One bed looked much newer than the other which had significant staining on the box spring. The window had a crack but didn't bother us.
The restaurant has decent food and service is friendly. Note: We were told it's illegal to serve a hamburger anything other than well done. A well done burger can be tough. A well done Bison burger is tough. Lesson learned. Breakfast was really good.
Overall dont skip this place if you're looking for a place to rest and refuel. It gets the job done. And thank you to everyone working hard in this location to keep us travelers going!
Edit: We stayed again last night (August 6) and this time we were in Room 6. The shower was great! However there was no mini fridge in this room. So, if you're hoping for a mini fridge, call and ask for a room that has one. Keep in mind this is a small, out of the way, middle of nowhere(ish) place so keep those expectations realistic, like keeping those drive times between Destruction Bay and Tok realistic (Google maps is all lies). Thanks again to the hard working crew to...
Read moreMy cousin and I are both in our early 80s and like driving trips. We drove from Wisconsin to Anchorage in 2019 and were able to do it again in August 2022. In 2019 we stayed here on the way up and also ate breakfast here on the way back. We hadn't intended to stay here this year because we wanted to take the Top of the World Highway between Dawson City and Chicken, Alaska but the ferry across the Yukon River in Dawson City went out of service the day before we would take it and we needed to reroute to the Alaska Highway. I called the Talbot Arm to see if they had a room available, which they did, so we stayed here again.||||The property includes the motel, a restaurant, a bar/lounge with pool table, souvenir and convenience items for sale, and a gas station. It's immediately adjacent to the Alaska Highway (YT-1). Parking is right at the door to your unit. Most of the units are behind the main building, so traffic noise is minimized. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Sleep quality is good. All the plumbing and equipment work well.||||The food and service in the restaurant is good. All the staff members are friendly and helpful. It's a pleasant place to stay. It's my experience that staffing is difficult in many places in Yukon, especially with the pandemic. Unlike many other places, this does not appear to be an issue at Talbot Arm. Everything we had available in 2019 was available in 2022.||||I'm almost glad the ferry was out of service because it gave us an opportunity to revisit Talbot Arm which we did with this overnight stay and breakfast on...
Read moreThis review is for the motel only. Excellent location for a motel between Whitehorse and Tok, along with its gas pump and restaurant services. Good cell coverage. Room clean. Nice-sized fridge with a freezer section. Microwave. A couple of water glasses instead of plastic, which I like. No coffee cups in room, so bring in your own hot beverage fixings and cups. There is a coffee station in the restaurant, but the prospect of having to pull on some suitable clothing first thing in the morning, then walk from one's room in another building through blustery wind and cold to the restaurant is unappealing. Bring in your own pillows because there were only two flat-as-pancake ancient pillows for queen bed that necessitated use of a packing cube and folded up bath towels to get comfortable. One utilitarian straight chair for the room. There is a round table at desk height. Bring clothespin to close gap in the attractive window curtain. Wifi in room albeit with constraints in usage. Can use wifi in restaurant. Note: I discovered an hour or so after settling in that the latch on the entrance door does not reliably catch in the door frame's bore hole, and sometimes it required considerable effort to get the door to latch. There is neither a deadbolt nor a chain bolt. I'm choosing to trust that the owners will address this issue effectively, hence the score of 3 instead of a 2, because the motel location really...
