We showed up close to closing (9pm in the summer months), and there were a few straggling tables on a relatively large flagstone patio. The tables mostly had not been cleared, which I usually take as evidence of a busy evening service, but two staff sat inside rolling cutlery. A young man quickly greeted us and promptly cleared the table. Our view from the deck overlooking the patio provided minor glimpses of water, though we were within roughly 150m of the shore, and mostly comprised of the neighbouring marina's boat launch.
The menu provided numerous world fare options on top of standard North American pub favourites (mahi mahi, banh mi--misspelled as bahn mai, beef pho, fish tacos, etc). My dining partners and I started with a round of beers and some wings. The wings were breaded, appeared to be an in-house breading, and generously sauced. If the review were of wings only, I would provide 4 stars. However, they did not come with carrots or celery and we did have to request a side of blue cheese. They were cooked very well, still moist, and provided a perfect crispy exterior texture that was balanced by a delicate fleshy interior.
We followed up with the Market Burger and Fish Tacos. My compatriot with the market burger commented that the fried cheese topping was a nice tart counterpoint to the standard burger, but also remarked that the burger was a frozen pre-cooked commercial patty of a quality similar to that of an elementary school's soccer team fundraiser barbecue. All in all, dry and somewhat disappointing. The fries were somewhat floppy, but a nice thick-cut pub style (if not slightly mealy) that would have been well-served by a dash of salt and side of malt vinegar. Neither were offered.
By the point of completion of the burgers, the Tacos had still not arrived. The server informed us that there was an error with the order, but ensured that they would be there promptly. When they did arrive, they were served in flour tortillas instead of corn, had basic toppings, and were fairly underwhelming. The prices did not reflect the quality of food, but the selection and attempts of dishes on offer, coupled with the location, made up for it satisfactorily.
All in all, the location was great. The service was good. The facilities were good. The cleanliness was okay. The food was marginal at best overall, though the wings were a high...
Read moreMy partner and I came here about a year ago when we were staying at a cottage nearby. We would be arriving at around 7:45 when the restaurant closes at 8 so we called ahead to see if they would still be able to serve us. The person on the phone said YES so we were on our way.
When we arrived right at 7:45, the hostess welcomed us and offered to seat us on the patio. As she was walking us to our table, an older woman approached us and told us that the kitchen was closed, very loudly and rudely. We began to say that we had called, but she was adamant and said something like "if you want a beer at the bar, sure, but food's not happening."
We ended up leaving and going to Harvey's. But we were confused - we called ahead because we knew it was close to closing time, and the hostess was prepared to seat us upon arrival. It seemed like it was okay to serve us until that other woman saw us.
I don't want to jump to conclusions, but we were the only people of colour in the restaurant, and potentially in the city lol. We felt disrespected and offended. We wanted to be mindful of the restaurant's time which is why we called ahead, but it didn't seem like they wanted to be...
Read moreThis place is a short drive (5 min) from the Pine Vista Resort. It is a restaurant and market. I only used it as a market so I won't talk about the restaurant. First, the reason for going was the ice cream. There were about 8 different flavour options and sizes from kiddie to large. The sizes are quite large. The kiddie come was plenty for several adults in our group. They also will let you pick two flavours for any size. The prices were reasonable, especially given the sizes. While there we also picked up some basic groceries. This is not a grocery store, but they had a reasonable selection of basics of you were stuck...
