We are locals and frequent it often. Usually twice a week. We took 2 friends there Saturday. Tonight, Thursday, just the two of us went. I went in first and was not drinking today and knew my wife would want a wine and know her favourite is Lohr Cabaret Sauvignon. It is NOT sold by the glass. By the bottle only for $49. I asked the server if we could take home what was left in the bottle. She replied, YES. I ordered a bottle. On leaving I asked to take it home. No problem. Then when the bill arrived there was $49 for the bottle and $30 Corkage. I queried this as Corkage is when they open MY wine, if such an option exists. The server went and talked to the Owner and reduced it to $15. I refused to pay it and aksed that they pour it down the drain and remove the $15 from the Bill. The $15 Corkage fee was removed but would not pour it out and kept it. The Owner did not want to speak to me which I thought an unusual attitude. Sadly we will not be returning to what had always been a decent restaurant.
As an update: Today I received a phone call from Shannon, the manager. She was most apologetic. There was a misunderstanding. Corkage would apply IF I brought my own wine. Not for re-corking a wine purchased there. I appreciated her interest and apology. PLUS she will make it right with me on my next visit. "Stuff" happens. The sign of a good business is how they deal with "Stuff". I am relieved to know I can return to my...
Read moreAs a Senior I stopped in for a "light lunch" hoping for a soup and sandwich. Was surprised at the high prices on the menu and lack of affordable choices. Sandwiches started at 19 $ and soup was 9 . Since I am really used to getting a light lunch for under 20$ I opted for the soup only hoping it would be meal sized, and might come with a bun or bread, but it wasn't it was a tiny portion other establishment's would call a cup and only came with 2 small crackers and wasn't even hot which the waiter promptly remedied when I brought it to her attention. The other menu items might be great but certainly not budget friendly. Like fish and chips for 27 and 36 $ for 1 and 2 piece, an offering I get locally for 14 and 18 $. My feeling is Great Algonquin decor but Down town Toronto pricing . I would not recommend unless you want to spend your Monthly food budget in...
Read moreI wish I could give service 10 more stars! Our server Sydney was amazing, on point, kind, warm, welcoming and attentive. there was a new menu and my family of five all tried something different, that Sydney recommended. I had the beef dip and the beef was a bit dry and chewy, the dip tasted like soy sauce with maybe a tiny bit of beef drippings but everyone else was happy. They were out of the spinach dip, cauliflower bites and pizza, all of which we would like to try on our next visit and we would come back for the service alone. Our server told us about the town fair this upcoming weekend and we are sorry we missed it so maybe our visit next year will have to be on fair weekend. Thank you again we all...
