Sugar Moon Farm has always been a must stop in anytime we travel to Nova Scotia. No matter where we've stayed it was always worth the trip.
Last year we were unable to make it to Nova Scotia due to Covid, and when we were able to come this year we knew unfortunately some of the places we frequent might change.
We received an email saying Sugar Moon Farm was accepting reservations for Saturday & Sundays and we made one.
When we went in, they were very clear of their covid protocols, which were simple & succinct.
We got the menu and it's changed a little bit, our go to dish was no longer there, but we saw some interesting new options.
We both ended up getting the Sugar Camp Pork and Eggs and I have to say I was absolutely blown away. Mike, the new chef has a background in fine dining and the meal absolutely shows it, without being overly pretentious or stuffy.
It is unassuming breakfast fine dining, where the staff are friendly and just want you to completely enjoy no matter where you're from, what you get, you will be impressed.
Nova Scotia is known for it's seafood, but incredible chefs like Mike make it known for incredible food.
5/5 is an understatement. If you're able to, make a reservation, get a delicious inexpensive meal, and get excited for what Mike has for...
Read moreSo disappointed. We drove a long way to get to Sugar Moon before their stated closing time of 3pm. We arrived at 2:32 and were told that the kitchen closes at 2:30. We asked if we could still get served given we were just 2 minutes over and were told no, the only thing they could do was give us a bag of biscuits and drinks. Since we were miles from anywhere else, we opted for this and then when we asked if we could eat in the restaurant with all the others who'd been there before the deadline, we were told no, but we could eat at one of the outdoor picnic tables. So we retreated outside only to find all the umbrellas had just been taken off of those tables and it was a hot, sunny day, so we ate our already stale biscuits in the car instead. It was a humiliating experience. In the restaurant's response to someone else's negative review - " the personal approach we have found leads to a level of connection that is sometimes hard to find these days" - I can only say that if what we experienced was their idea of personal, I'd like to see that definition. Bottom line - if you can't and won't serve people after 2:30, then change your hours so people don't waste their time...
Read moreWe decided to adventure out to this place for Family Day. After reading some other reviews, we planned to hike before breakfast and rent snowshoes. Today was the most beautiful day to go - the sun was shining, there was a fresh blanket of snow, and the views on the 6.2km hike were worth every effort. The trails are exceptionally well marked, and it is very evident that they are groomed often. Breakfast was good; the pancakes were not what we are used to. But the maple butter, biscuits and beans were so delicious. Staff were quick and friendly! Overall, a good experience. We will be back!
A few tips - the parking lot fills up quickly, so you may have to park along the road. I would recommend passing the parking lot and then parking - so it doesn't block the road in. Definitely register your name on the waitlist for breakfast before you go on the hike - by the time we were done the hike (approx 2 hours), we were at the top of the list and walked right in to a table. Also - check the weather before you go. I can't stress this enough. We were very overdressed today and wish we had come more prepared. Also -...
