It was our first experience at Tatlows, and we decided to check it out based on wounderful reviews I've seen on social media. If not for these reviews, I'm certain we would have decided not to dine here upon our 1st impression walking in. This place needs a big face lift- first its very dirty looking. Holes in the walls, chipped paint, dirty mismatched flooring, filthy brass railings, cheap badly stained/dirty plastic table cloths, and lighting on walls in bad need of dusting. Eating at an establishment where the first impression is that its dirty and unkempt, leads me to wonder what its like in the back kitchen. If they spent the time and money to make the dining room look polished and more intimate Im sure they would a larger profit, and higher ratings based on this alone. I'm sure many have left before eating based on seeing how dirty and sloppy main dining room looks. However, we took a chance- the service was friendly and fast. Environment is quiet so you can talk comfortably at the table without raising your voice. Food was served hot and was very tasty but nothing to rave about. Hence my 3 star rating as an average restaurant. I do hope the place heeds advice on appearance and get that facelift to main dining room. I mean, Osso Bucco is on the menu! And this place does not look like a place I'd want to eat Osso Bucco in. We'd like to come back one day, but not while it looks like it gets cleaned with a damp rag once a month. Hoping to hear of some...
Read moreI had been for breakfast once before and decided to try dinner. The service both times was outstanding.
The restaurant itself is eclectic, which would be charming with a bit of work. Cracked floor tiles, wobbly chairs, cobwebs, and fruit flies, suggest the place could use a good cleaning.
The food itself was okay. The portions are large. My friend had the chicken Parm and they allowed her to switch the Alfredo sauce for a tomato sauce. Very accommodating.
My steak sandwich on ciabatta bun tasted fine and was cooked the way I like it. I believe it was a balsamic drizzled on the outside, and while I'm all about presentation, it made for a messy eating experience.
We shared the fruit crèpes for dessert and were disappointed. They literally drowned it in a sickly sweet blueberry sauce, and I suppose that's why they served it with a spoon. The actual flavor of the crèpe and the fruit was lost.
I actually became quite sick after I got home, and since I don't have a sensitive stomach, it might have been related to something I ate at the restaurant since that's the only thing that came back up and I felt perfectly fine afterwards.
To sum it up, it's a cute little restaurant and I understand they have an outdoor patio out back, but don't mistake it for fine dining even though they have a...
Read moreJust moved to the area and wife and I was quite excited to try Tatlows after seeing the raving reviews, but left with utter disappointment.
Upon arrival, the server insisted on seating us at a tiny two seater table when there were several 4-seater tables available and we saw all other parties of two were sat at those. (there were no reservations for them either)
We ordered the lamb shank skillet and duck confit. Food took an excessively long time to arrive (50-60 minutes), and when we asked if this was typical or due to special circumstances, they said yea it's been known to take up to two hours.... Why anyone would be willing to wait that long for food at a family diner beats me.
During the entire dining experience, there was zero attentiveness from the server, did not refill our water and she was more focused on the leafs game on the TV.
Unfortunately when the food finally arrived, our mood was already ruined and did not enjoy it as much as we would've liked, to be fair, the lamb shank was 5/5 and extremely tender, the duck confit was 2/5 and mostly ruined by the extra sweet honey glaze.
Bill came to $80+ with the sides we added, and you can likely find better service and...
