A lovely adventure is how I would sum up our visit to this cafe. We went to Elliston to look at the cute puffins that throng the island every year. After a couple of hours of puffin viewing, we got hungry and decided to get something to eat in town. Just as we got into our car, it started to thunderstorm with pelting rain. We quickly came across 'The Puffin Cafe' as we were driving and decided to pull up for a warm meal. The staff is so cordial and we got our orders in. Unfortunately, the power went off. The food was all half cooked and we really felt bad for the kitchen staff who were scrambling. They couldn't do much but they still managed to salvage the situation by making us sandwiches and the like that didn't need power. So kind of them to whip up something despite the situation and not wanting us to leave hungry. I really appreciate their efforts and their kindness. After our sandwich meal, we grabbed some souvenirs and headed out. Go for the cute puffin themed cafe but definitely stay for the kind staff and the amazing hospitality!

The is one of the most delightful stopovers we had in Newfoundland. The staff embody the hospitality, friendliness, kindness of the Newfoundland nature. We felt we were family after 2 minutes of interaction. In one corner, they have many wonderful souvenirs some of which were handmade by the locals. We each bought something after we had eaten a bite. We had the pea soup, seafood chowder and fisherman’s brews. We also had the partridge berry cheesecake which was quite good. Food we selected was ok, not bad, not fantastic but good enough to satisfy us after a rainy and cold downpour at Elliston Island. I believe the other items on the menu were way better, we probably didn’t select the right items. We also bought a bottle of partridge berry jam. It was excellent. They have a whole cabinet of different jams made locally, it was difficult to choose and resist buying more than one.

Lack luster service at best. We said when we went in we were in a rush. We even ordered our main meal at same time as our drinks to speed things along. We waited 45 minutes for lunch. People came after us and for their order and then left before we even had our meal. When I brought up my concern she said the others had sandwiches. I said you knew I was in a rush. Had I known my order would take so long I would have changed it. We had a three hour drive and this meal made us late. I had giving bad reviews of local companies but this was unnecessary. Can’t say I’ll be back there. This is nothing about shortness of staff but more about paying attention to your customers.
