First of all if you didn’t know, as it isn’t mentioned clearly on the resort website, this place is a cook it yourself restaurant. They bring you a hot stone and you have to cook your own food. Because of this, the restaurant atmosphere is terrible. It’s very smoky because there is no ventilation for this type of experience. It’s very smelly as people all around are cooking their meals non stop. We left smelling so bad of smoke and meat. The experience was not great at all. The service at the restaurant was absolutely awful. The waitress had conversations with other guests while taking our order. Instead of telling the other guest to wait a moment she turned around to talk to him. In the middle of us talking to the her to give her our order she left to get us water whilst we were literally telling her our drink order. When she came back with water, she forgot the drink all together. Then she left to put the water jug away and still did not come back with the drink instead asked us again what we wanted to drink. When the food came by a different waiter, he explained the process well. We didn’t see our waitress again for a while and didn’t get refills on our water at all. She asked our dessert order and didn’t write it down but brought the wrong desserts after making us wait a while for them. Mind you we were just 2 people so it wasn’t a complicated order to remember. We then waited over 30 more minutes for the right dessert to come. The crazy stupid part was that the 2 desserts we ordered were ones that were previously prepared. In the sense that they were both cold and previously plated even and you can tell because the decoration on the plate was hardened and cold as well. So there was absolutely no reason to have waited this long for dessert.
The food was overall good tasting. We had the octopus appetizer and filet mignon steak. My partner has the manhattan steak and this one wasn’t as good. The dessert was very nice tasting. We had the chocolate moose and crème brule, but keep in mind the brulé was not fired on spot of ordered and was...
Read moreThe concept is definitely very interesting with a lot of potential. However, their ventilation system really needs to be worked on. As soon as we got to the lobby of the hotel which is considerate distance from the restaurant, we could smell the grilling meats odours. And as soon as we step into the restaurant, we see clouds of the smoke from the volcano rocks everywhere and of course the smell will deeply steep into your clothing and hair. The food itself is a lot about show. The shrimps came in a huge martini glass with a big piece of horseradish. The caesar salad was ‘deconstructed’ in which you can find the crouton in a glass shape with a parm bottom. It looks cool but it is not the best delivery. As for the mains, the meat, even though covered with mushroom seasoning were definitely lacking salt and flavour. And the volcano rock cooks the meat but does not provide the char well hence do not develop that desired caramelized crust you would expect from a high temperature cooking. The ice cream and the brownie came from what seemed a pre made and pre frozen dish in which the items were still rock hard. The lemon pie was enjoyable. Fun experience with hands on involvement but keep your...
Read moreNot impressed... restaurant is nice, atmosphere is nice, waitresses are nice... I was aware that the concept here is that you cook you own meet so that part did not bother me. I ordered some "cerf" but it did not have that "wild" taste that it usualle have it taste like plain beef. My wife ordered a green salade but received a salade with 4 branche of some sort of "salade" that look like little trees that were hard she was unable to chew and she made a comment about the salade the waitress was kind enough to make her a cesar salade. Wich was an oki replacment. The price are way to high for what you get food/experience. I have no trouble paying for an expensive dish but give me sometime to like about it... awesome taste, creative prensentation...something.. for the price you get none of that. A few side vegetable almost felt frozen, and a side of mash patato that also seem made straight out of a microwave. And 18$ for a dessert which consisted of a table spoon size raspberry sorbet accompanied by a 1 inch x 1/2 inch "cashew sorbet" wrap in chocolate. Was hoping for more I heard so much nice thing about the hole esterel ressort but unfortunately it was our first and...
