Good food, but few options (nothing healthy). My burger was delicious (even without the toppings I asked for but didn't recieve), as were the fries and ice cream. I was a bit bummed out at supper time when I opened my club sandwich (which I had inquired about), to see it was turkey lunchmeat. I'm sure it was good, but as I told the cashier when I ordered the burger well-done, I am pregnant (which means deli meat is not OK, either, unless heated properly... so I tossed the $10+ sandwich). Granted, she may not have realized it was an issue and connected the two things like I did for the burger, so it's not something I'm upset about... just lowered the rating as it lowered the experience to have paid for something I couldn't eat. It was also kind of a bummer to have thought that we found somewhere to escape the rain, then learn that we couldn't dine inside.
At the end of the day, we would stop back in on future travels as it was the most positive experience we had Out of the 3 options available in the direct area. The collectibles store...
Read moreI love the Hungry Bear; we've stopped as often as we can traveling back and forth from Southern Ontario. The food is good, not mind-blowing and certainly not bargain-priced, but enjoyable and filling. They have a decent variety of food and it isn't just another one of a long string of chain restaurants to visit on your trip.
We always enjoy ourselves and the kids never complain. There's an area for pets to get on an exercise just north of the parking lot 2 too.
I believe this is a seasonal restaurant, and I don't think they're open during the winter months. The French River Trading Post maybe open during the winter season, but I think there have been occasions we've stopped and the restaurant itself have been closed. You're not too far from Sudbury if you are traveling north, so don't fret if your stomach is rumbling and the Hungry Bear isn't...
Read moreI went to hungry bear based on the reviews and unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I had the western omelet and my son had blueberry pancakes. The cheese used tasted like cheese whiz, was oily and slimy. I’m not sure, why a lovely restaurant with such ambiance as this one needs to save money putting synthetic cheese on the food and not use real cheese. The omelet was small and not filling but was not overcooked. The potatoes were from a box. The marble rye was delicious though so order that for sure. My son‘s pancakes while large had almost no Blueberries and they tasted like the dried ones as they did not taste like fresh blueberries and I make pancakes with fresh blueberries all the time. I won’t go back when I am up...
