Such a lovely experience. My family and I live down the road and are so happy to FINALLY have such a wonderful restaurant so close by!
We were 13 people and so went with the family style menu; every single dish that came out - tapas style - was a hit. The menu is built around whatever is fresh, local and seasonal. It's refined and ambitious cooking while at the same time, casual and accessible dining - a really refreshing change of pace from standard deep fried island fare. Highlights included the beef tartare, lettuce and pickles salad, tomatoes on toast, beans and mint, cod fritters with a blueberry slaw, and last but not least, a dish of - incredibly, shockingly - flavourful chicken breast with corn.
Beyond the delicious food, Chef Alex and his team were so wonderful - incredibly welcoming, professional, flexible and accommodating before, during, and after our meal.. and this was a last-minute reservation for a large, loud group including some picky eaters/ typically hard-to-please customers ;) Everyone left very happy and satisfied! A week later, we are still talking about the experience and excited to return next summer. Thank you for a...

Chef Alex curates an incredible multi-course tasting menu that surpasses almost any other culinary experience that I've ever had. He uses clean and fresh ingredients to make elevated dishes that are worth writing home about. Since he uses fresh ingredients, his menu changes nearly daily, making every visit a unique one, surely. His wife, Kelly, is also a very talented pastry chef whom is responsible for the delicious desserts they serve. Their "accidental" parsnip cake has got to be one of the best desserts I've ever had. It's no question that you can taste the passion in their food.
Can't forget Drew and Becky; they are both amazing servers that took great care of us. Friendly and knowledgeable in all of the dishes. They have been good friends of Alex and Kelly for several years, and that only adds to the small-town family-like experience that you'll receive at North Shore Canteen.
I mean it when I say, you can't visit PEI without visiting this small-town gem with big flavours!! You...
Read moreWe went here for my mother’s birthday and we were not pleased with our experience. First of all they had a self with spirits but for some reason nothing to mix them with? When I asked what mixers they had and the waitress met my question with quite the negative attitude saying they focus on only local wines and beer. I took a couple more minutes to think about what I wanted and when I ordered she very rudely asked me for my ID after not checking anyone else in my party (we were all over 21 years old). The only gripe I have other than the waitresses terrible attitude was that when asked what protein I would like with my “I don’t like your menu” and I replied with grilled chicken, I was told they did not have grilled chicken. Met again with a very hostile attitude from the waitress I asked if she could check. I was given a mound of shredded rotisserie tasting dark meat chicken. Everybody else in my party enjoyed their food for the most part, but the service was very poor and...
