I’ve been to this diner twice and both times were less than stellar.
The first time I was here, my friend and I came and we felt like the waitress had an attitude with us. The diner itself is really cool to be inside. I like the atmosphere and the commitment to the theme. It looks awesome and is my kind of vintage loving vibe. The food was mediocre. I liked it. Nothing too special… however, the apple crumble dessert is to die for. My friend and I split one and we absolutely loved it.
That had us coming back…
The second time we came back was unpleasant to say the least. To start, my friend ordered a chocolate and strawberry milkshake.. and she clearly stated she wanted one but with 2 flavours. The waitress brought out 2 separate drinks. Which is fine.. we split them. However, the waitress also had an attitude and she seemed to forget about us on countless occasions. We waited over 50 minutes for our food to come out and Im pretty sure our waitress forgot about us. The food this time was meh. I ordered the chicken and waffles and it tasted kind of gross. Too much sauce. It doesn’t need hot sauce & spicy mayo sauce. It’s doing too much. And the waffles were covered in those spicy sauces. Im okay with spice.. but the point of chicken and waffles is sweet & savoury and too much spicy sauce makes it impossible to add maple syrup and makes the waffles sweet. My friends eggs were also overcooked and green looking.
We ordered the apple crumble again and it was still delicious. I really recommend that dessert. I think the service really needs to be worked on. Super slow and the ladies are always copping a little attitude. The manager at least I think he is the manager because he showed leadership skills.. was fantastic and really nice. No complaints there.
At this point, Im unsure about coming back because although the apple crumble is amazing, Im not sure the breakfast food + the service is worth...
Read moreAttempted to dine at Elsie’s on a Sunday night when they advertise they close at 8pm. We arrived at 735 to a dining room with 3 tables still seated eating. The hostess said they only do takeout 20 mins before closing. I replied that we wouldn’t want to do takeout but were hoping for a table. She said she’d check and went to the kitchen. Not sure who came out, but a lady walked out of the kitchen and aggressively yelled across the dining room “we’re only doing takeout. It’s your only option”. I’m sure there was probably a more professional way of explaining this to us, but no sorry and couldn’t even bother to walk over and speak with us. I responded that we were disappointed as our hotel had recommended them and we thought we were still early. If open until a certain time, most restaurants seat you until closing, so maybe they need to adjust their hours? We then left and as we were getting ready to drive away, the same woman came outside to take down an umbrella on the patio. I said to her that “for being in the hospitality business, that was not very hospitable”. She responded, in front of our kids, “you read our hours, don’t be a d*ck”. We then drove away pretty disappointed with our experience. Sorry for trying to give you our business. So much for supporting local. We’re now sitting at Boston Pizza who is happily...
Read moreWow, what a fantastic dining experience! Our family of 15 stopped by Elsie's Dinner on our way back from the cottage in Tobermory, and it was the perfect ending to our summer getaway. From the moment we walked in, we were transported back to the fabulous 50's - the decor, the music, and the friendly service all combined to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The food was absolutely delicious, with something for everyone on the menu. From classic burgers and sandwiches to old-fashioned comfort food like meatloaf and macaroni & cheese, every dish was made with fresh, local ingredients and served with a smile. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable - we loved that they offer a great meal at a price that allows families to dine out together without breaking the bank.
We were impressed by the variety of options, including a great Seniors Menu and plenty of gluten-free choices. And the kids loved the Little Darlin's Menu, which came with a drink and ice cream sundae - what a treat!
Our server was friendly and efficient, handling our large group with ease. We can't wait to come back to Elsie's Dinner again next year - it's become a highlight of our annual cottage trip. If you're looking for a tasty meal in a fun and nostalgic setting, look no further than Elsie's,...
