Short version - Slow service, incorrect orders, warm draught beer, good food (after they corrected the order) and passable customer service regarding our experience.
Long version - Our youngest son and their family are in town for a wedding. We have been to the restaurant next door to the Lakeview and on our way down Hwy 28... decided to eat there. When we arrived, two of our party got confused and choose the Lakeview. Kim and I love to try new places...so sure, we stayed put at the Lakeview.
We noticed that the service staff was a party of two for the entire restaurant and patio. Not unusual in our post COVID experiences. We prepared for not so snappy service.
Our first order, 4 waters, 2 Belgian Moons and a Gin & Cran...with a straw. 5 minutes later we got 4 waters and a cranberry and ginger ale??? No beer and no explanation...only that the beer was coming. Luckily, we noticed how the server described the drink and asked for them to just bring a shot of gin and the already requested straw. 5 more minutes and we get the gin...still no straw or beer. We are told that the keg had to be changed. Fair enough...but having that context earlier would have improved our mood. We give our food orders...2 sets of wings...no fries, a Caesar wrap and chicken wrap with NO MAYO (server said she underlined it) with the crispy chicken tossed in a wing sauce.
10 minutes and the 2 Belgian Moons show up...with a straw. Upon trying the beer...it was warm...in the 10C-14C range. Not the 2C-4C range which beer on a patio in Ontario in the summer is supposed to be.
So we get the attention of the server and swap out to a Coors Light on tap and a bottle of Corona. The Corona was cold...the draught was not. Same warm temp. We informed the server that they need to look at the refrigerator on the taps as three warm draughts indicated a problem.
Food came out shortly after that. The two orders of wings were good. Kim's wrap and fries also good. Our son's wrap came with mayo... even after "NO MAYO" was underlined. Thankfully, the server brought the fries back so our son could have warmer fries...and could eat with us.
We all enjoyed the food.
Went to pay the bill and noticed that they had removed the two original draughts from the bill. They didn't mention that... which would have been helpful as I failed to notice until writing this review the next morning.
All in all, the group of 4 plus a baby gave 2 two star and 2 three star reviews... we're going to call it 3 ⭐⭐⭐.
We would consider going back as our experience seems unusual given other reviews...and maybe it was just a...
Read moreI’m giving two stars instead of one because they have a dog-friendly patio. I should have reset my expectations when we stood at the “please wait to be seated” sign for 10 minutes without being acknowledged. When I finally approached someone and asked for a table on the patio, she said “go ahead and seat yourself.” OK. When we ordered our (very simple) breakfast and our server said it might take some extra time, we thought “well, it is Mother’s Day” — even though there were only two parties on the patio including us, the interior tables weren’t that busy and there were easily five or six servers working. But AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER, our food emerged. We are talking basic eggs and bacon dishes here. A 1.5-hour wait for a diner-style breakfast is obscene, even if every table in the joint had been full. My daughter’s eggs had a hair in it. The sausage and peameal were really good and food was served fresh, but OH MY GOD — not worth waiting an hour and a half. On top of this, smokers continued to congregate on the sidewalk directly in front of the patio, so we also enjoyed frequent wafts of cigarette smoke during our extremely long visit.
Editing (based on restaurant's response to which I cannot reply) to emphasize: it was NOT busy while we were there. There were two parties on the patio (us and a group of 8-10 people) and inside it was about 1/3 full, definitely fewer than half the tables were occupied. If it had been packed inside and out, I would have been more understanding and maybe waiting an hour would have been acceptable. But 1.5 hours would still...
Read moreCame to the Lakeview for the first time, and it was a toss up between the gyro and the wings. Ended up getting the small portion of both which was great in that I got to try out both offerings.
First off the wings. I like my wings hot...as in ridiculously hot. Most restaurants that claim they offer suicide or hell wings, are barely offering what a hot flavour wing should be. So when our server said that the Lakeview wings were truly hot... I was naturally sceptical! Then they came out asking me to sign a waiver ... in case they proved to be too hot. This got me curious... but still confident that they wouldn't be able to hit the heat level I usually look for! When the wings came out, they came out super saucy, and I will honestly say they met my desired expectations! These wings are hot... your eyes will water, your nose will run, your head will heat up several degrees... and your mouth and lips will truly be on fire (it took a good 10 min after the last wing for my mouth to feel back to normal). But as hot as these wings truly are... more importantly they taste great!! Colleen (aka Red) did a great job with coming up with a recipe that meets what hot wing ppl like myself truly look for!
As for the Gyro Pita... it too was tasty... but if the meat was freshly shaved off a spit, that would make it awesome!
I'll definitely be back for...
