Not the best Fish & Chips at all! A two piece Fish equals a one piece at most other places, I mean really small. Batter was somewhat burnt. Chips were ok, gravy was almost pure cornstarch - very thin, and flavourless.. The fryer fat should have been changed. I may have been there on an off day, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the Fish & Chips. Sad too, the place had a nice diner charm inside. (Edit: I slightly increased my review because the owner reached out to me and suggested that I should have brought it to their attention to correct, I couldn't have brought back my take-out order as I was the passenger of the vehicle and we had to continue on with our journey. But they also explained about their cooking oil being off tasting - to me.. I will honour their explanation and it could have been something else that was cooked towards the end of the oils life that threw off the flavour) however, I do stand by the smaller portions of Fish.. I do eat a ridiculous amount of fish and chips and from a large variety of restaurants in the eastern /Avalon regions. I am afraid that your portions are on the smaller side. A piece of fish on average in my experience is about 5 inches long, 11/2 inches thick and about 3 plus inches wide.. What I received was 3x3 inches, one piece was a thin tail piece, the other was a decent thickness) Your price makes it perhaps more affordable, but when others are use to getting a larger portion, this is what is expected. You can charge $10 for a 2 pc fish and chips and have each piece smaller still, but again, the fish is smaller than average size wise as I stated regardless of the price.. I can easily name off 10+ take-outs with larger pieces of fish for only a dollar or two more than you charge. I can also name 2 take-outs with portions similar to your size, both slight more expensive, so I'll give you that. This was the worst restaurant experience.

We sat ourself to a table and waited an about 20 minutes before someone came over to us to see if we wanted a menu. There were no greeting from the server.

The initial waitress asked if we were eating in and then took a couple of menus from a couple next to us, and then pass them over to us without saying a word and left. We waited another 20 minutes before a second waitress asked us on the other side of the counter because the first server didn’t return and asked If we had our order in and then came over to take our order( no communication except taking our orders)

Waited another 45 minutes. Our meals came out, and my fish was very watery and greasy. My mom’s chicken wings add a hair into it. I brought it to the second waitress attention, and she gave no apology for the experience. She took the chicken wings off the bill , without any kind of attempting to make amends. Gave me the receipt and I paid.

The waitresses were very cold and acted like they didn’t even want to be there themselves.

Our experience was upsetting in the restaurant BUT WHEN CALLED THE OWNER/S AT HOME THAT EVENING I WAS RESPECTED AND ACKNOWLEDGED. THE RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE WAS RESOLVED EXPERTLY! Doug and Joanne are to be commended for exceptional customer service.I spoke to Doug that evening (yesterday June 28,2017) and Joanne called me today (early am) and they are genuinely caring owners of a small business making a go of it in our very difficult financial climate.I have to say that they respected me and also their staff. NO EXCUSES for what happened as some might think is easier than facing our concerns with a very caring response. WE WILL RETURN TO THEIR RESTAURANT AND ALSO TELL OTHER! If you have any concerns with your restaurant or takeout visit rest assured that if you call the owners you will be listened to and your concern rectified ,if at all possible.Thanks again...
