Idylwild Inn — Restaurant in Houston

This place has gone downhill... so far down hill its six fret under. Chicken chow mein... it was all noodles and tiny amount of chicken on top. No bean sprouts or onions, just noodles! House fried rice... the meats in it were dry and the rice was clumpy. Almond chicken... tasted like old deep fryer oil. Sweet and sour boneless pork... container was half full and was more sauce in container than pork. Ginger fried beef... it had a layer of beef on top and the bottom was noodles!!!! They filled the container with noodles and put some ginger fried beef on top to make container look full!!! Spent way too much money and threw over half in the trash. This place used to be run by the owners and the food was great, now there are other people cooking and the food has turned to crap!!! Its Elements...

This place used to be good. New management thinks the pepper beef sheshwan beef and beef chop suey are all the same. Everything is bland, generic. Very dissapointed the last 2 times I was there. This is the old review for the old management. Was 5 stars. Ive eaten here several times in the last couple years. Food quality is always top notch. No they dont seem to have dine in anymore. Yes the woman who runs it is very abrupt. Yes sometimes the wait time for take out is very long and that dose not work with the instant gratification everyone wants nowadays, but there is a reason for that long wait time. It's probably the best chinese food ive eaten outside of the lower mainland in the last 10 years and extremely consistent. Try the black pepper...

Another one of Houston’s Chinese Western Restaurants that has build its respect and reputation over the years, yet still strives to impress!

The Idylwild Restaurant has been in Houston for many years. The previous owner that had owned the place for who knows how many years has left and there is now a new owner. It’s great to see them carry on their legacy.

Food is absolute, personally I really enjoy their chow mein and deep fried prawns. 🍤 Solid prices as it is pretty close to the competition. Service is very friendly, acknowledges your presence and non reminded refills. The place is open and very bright making you feel very cozy.
