On our fifth day in our Newfoundland trip, we were at Fogo Island. Thus far, we had a very underwhelming food experience in Gros Morne and Bonavista areas; so we weren’t expecting much. The Storehouse, however, changed our perception about Newfoundland food and how amazing it can taste when done well.

We ordered seafood chowder for appetizer which had cod, shrimp, bits of celery and carrot and a rich, creamy potato base. They told us that they don’t use cream in their soup which was a pleasant surprise. The chowder was amazing and the accompanying bread with anchovy butter was very flavourful.

For mains, we ordered kids mini burger, pan seared cod, and fish & chips. The burger was juicy and the beef patty was very tasty paired up with ketchup. The pan seared cod came with an assortment of baked veggies and a very flavourful garlic-based aioli. The cod was moist, flaky and had the right amount of zing. The batter of the fish & chips was well-seasoned and remained crunchy till the last bite. The fish & chips came with tartar sauce and homemade coleslaw which was super fresh. The fries were also very crunchy and not oily at all.

Special thanks to our chef Mr. Miko and our server for the amazing recommendations. Best food experience in...

Make a reservation if you want better service. We didn’t have a reservation but we’re seating immediately. Tables are pre-set with glasses and silverware. Waitress said someone would be right over with water. We glanced at the menu while parties (behind us) with reservations were seated and given water immediately. The two tables that were seated after were then asked to take their orders. We then received water and 5 minutes later our order was taken. My wife ordered the chowder and the hummus plate and I ordered the moose burger and fries. Wife said all her food was pretty flavorless. My burger was suppose to come with pickles but did not and the fries were colder than room temperature. No sure how the fries could be so cold because after they are cooked and placed on a plate, they sit under a heat lamp. Wait staff was only friendly when we first walked up. Would not...

Glad we called ahead and made a reservation! Our meal started with the potato leek soup which was probably one of the best soups we have ever had. We both had the pan fried cod with potatoes and onion. It also was excellent. We shared a piece of the apple smoked cheese cake with molasses crystal. My only problem was that it wasn't big enough. We should have each ordered a piece. The staff were excellent. Very friendly and attentive. They also feature Growler's ice-cream.Kudos for supporting local businesses. I would...

Just left after an amazing meal. We opted for the crab dinner that opens with a huge bowl of delicious mussels. The 3/4 of a tasty crab came with coleslaw, potato salad, a fresh roll, clarified butter…they’ve thought of everything and know how to prepare and present. We chose a nice Pecorino wine, the berry desserts, and plan to return for lunch tomorrow. We highly recommend this local restaurant for what’s been our best meal so far in Nfld (3 weeks and counting).

We couldn’t get a table at the Fogo Inn and the reception suggested we go to their sister restaurant. This restaurant was also recommended by a few people and we haven’t been disappointed. My wife and I both had the Seafood Chowder and the Lobster Pasta and they were both delicious. Amanda was our server and she gave it all to make us happy and comfortable. I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy dinner on the island.
