5 star for food 1 star for service 3 star for cleanliness
Cool west coast vibe. Great food. Lots of vegetarian options. Decent prices for entree (coffee and baked goods are pricy … but like the name, they are ‘delicious’). Watch you aren’t overcharged. When adding a tip (with their machines), if you don’t read carefully, you may tip $30 instead of $3. Also, there is no table service - so keep that in mind if you do choose to tip.
The service is truly non-existent; you help yourself to your own cutlery, napkins, wipe off the layers of food of previous diners from the table, etc. You may have to go back up two or three times to see if your coffee is ready… They’ll tell you that they will ‘call your name’ when your coffee is ready - but there’s no way you’ll hear it from the dining area. If you are dining with others, it is likely your food will not arrive together - so expect to eat at different times. (Bothersome they have a high tip prompt before you realize all this.)
I do love the vibe of this restaurant and the food is great, but if it’s a busy day, they can’t accommodate the crowd and the wait is long. I can’t give them more than a 3 star because they did not clean or wipe the tables. It’s a cute A- frame building that is larger inside than one would expect. It is a nice place to eat outside at picnic tables in the summer. It is in a great location for travellers and is an area that has limited options for take-out food and dining. Keep in mind they have daytime hours (breakfast brunch only).
I attempted to add a three dollar tip and it added a $30 tip. Three of the five people in our party had the same issue of it ‘up charging’ our tip by 1000%. We caught the mistake and corrected it…. But later, one person in our party got home, and instead of tipping $2.60. They tipped $26.
We drove out here because of the ‘hot chocolate festival’… When we got there for an early lunch, they didn’t have any hot chocolate...
Read moreFunky, tasty, quirky, cozy - those are just a few words that describe one of the neatest little eating places we've ever enjoyed! We were on our way for some coastal hiking, but decided to stop for a coffee and sweetie. We found a gem! And we decided to have lunch because it was raining and close to lunch anyway. Since we had a light breakfast, my wife and I decided on the Breakkie Bun. It took a little while, but we had plenty to do as we looked around the eclectic decorations and metalwork pieces hanging on the walls. When our sandwiches arrived, we dove in because they were so great-looking! And they tasted fresh and hot, which is what we needed to endure the upcoming hike. So sorry, no pictures of the food - it didn't last! We saw others getting sandwiches and pastries, all of which was made on premises and looked equally good, and more that enough for one person! On our way out, the muffins called us, so we got some of those. They didn't last the hike! We would've gotten more sweeties, but the hostess told us they're normally sold out by noon! It's a little out of the way, but that's the beauty of SDC. Check it out... before or after you enjoy the...
Read moreFabulous good. Didn't try the coffee this visit, but hear it's wonderful. Lots of gorgeous looking cakes and pastries. We had a muffin that was large enough for two to share. The soup sandwich combo for$14 was worth every cent. Yam thai soup, bacon broccoli soup was yummy. Turkey cranberry and Brie sandwich on homemade melt in the mouth bread. Smallish indoor eating area, buzzing with all characters of people, surfers, walkers, locals and one group visiting to celebrate a birthday. Outside seating which I'm sure is taken full advantage of in warmer months. I like people watching and loved the friendly, family atmosphere. Staff could be seen working hard, laughing in each other's company. Front of house team welcoming, serving and keeping a very upbeat vibe. Good tunes blasted out, which was a huge contrast to the quiet rainforest silence. Excellent banter from other staff with customers. Everyone greated as they entered, thanked and had a find farewell. This is a busy wood cabin, on a December Saturday and by all accounts it's busy all the time. We'll be going...
