Have driving past this place a million times but Friday we stopped in!! We were searching for key lime pie but found Chelsea buns and molasses cookies. AND THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!
I make the best butter tarts but now I'm being questioned by my husband and we have to go back and do a taste test again real soon. So, ya, this is going to get awkward ...
The Chelsea buns were a HUGE hit with our friends this weekend and I will confess right here that I didn't share the molasses cookies because they were mine, all mine ...and I left them in the car. Here we are two days later and they are still soft like the day they were purchased!
Most impressive is the display. They had every tart and square going and those Nanaimo bars were calling my name and they looked like sheer perfection all perfectly cut and lined up.
Years ago I heard their cheese bread was THE BEST and my friends would stop off en route to the cottage every weekend to buy a loaf or two. THAT'S COMMITMENT.
Now, whilst there browsing and trying not to drool on their display cases, the loveliest ladies were assisting us. Warm and friendly like a hug from Gma.
I don't know how they do it - keeping display cabinets fully stocked and fresh ... but they're doing it right. If you haven't been, this is a must!!
I will give in and try the butter tarts ... I didn't see any bacon on any of them (which is my secret addition to my famous butter tarts) but I'm guessing these ladies have mastered the tart...
Read moreDelicious and gooey butter tarts. We got the classic butter tarts and their raspberry tarts to go. And I also got a sausage roll pastry for a snack.
The butter tarts are just phenomenal. They have such beautiful texture in the pastry itself that is just the right amount of flaky-ness. The butter tart filling is rich and is runny, but it's delicious. Just make sure you catch that sweet filling on a serviette and not your lap! I recommend keeping these in a cooler or the fridge so that they're a little less runny when you bite in, also keeps them fresher for a few days if you get a bunch like we did.
The raspberry tarts were much less runny and equally as delicious. The very sweet raspberry jam-like filling was fresh and blended superbly with the flaky tart crust.
I highly recommend dropping by and getting a couple or three different types of their tarts and pastries. You will...
Read morelearnt about this place for years, managed to stopped by to try their well known butter tart; and I’m so glad I did! This little treat is nothing short of divine. The crust is beautifully golden and perfectly flaky, holding up the rich, gooey filling without falling apart. The center is just the right balance of sweet and buttery, with a silky texture that melts in your mouth.
What really stood out was the depth of flavor—there's a hint of caramelized brown sugar and just the right touch of salt to round it out. Not overly sweet, but indulgent in all the right ways. It’s everything a classic butter tart should be, elevated with real craftsmanship.
If you’re a butter tart lover, this is a must try. And even if you’re not (yet), this one might just convert you. I’ll definitely be...
