I called to order takeout, during a non crucially busy time in the early evening. There were maybe 4 cars parked adjacent to the restaurant. The person who took my order, said it would be ready in 30 minutes, which is fair, and I had no complaints about.
It was a fairly simple order, 2 large poutines with extra cheese, and one medium poutine with no special instructions.
Half an hour passes by, and my spouse and I show up at the window. There were 2 people in front of us making a large order. When they were walking away, the cashier realized that they had made a mistake on the bill, rudely told me to hold on a minute, and yelled the other group's order number, they came back and rectified the situation. I then finally was able to speak to the cashier. I told her we were there to pick up a take out order for the name we had provided. She didn't realize at first what we were talking about, but then found the order she had written down on a post it. She made up the bill, and I paid.
Here's the part that really bugged me. She then said, after I had paid, that it would take a few minutes for it to be made. A young man came out from the kitchen area to the window yelling " We wanted to make it fresh for you we wanted to make it fresh". I don't buy it. Why would you tell people their food is going to be ready in 30 minutes, if they're going to have to wait another 15 when they get there? Why even accept take out orders? This place seems increasingly disorganized, inconsistent, and a disappointment.
Now on to the actual food. The 2 large poutines, which were supposed to have extra cheese, had barely any cheese at all. The fries were soggy and gross. There was a thin skim of watery gravy at the top, a space totally devoid of gravy in the middle, and a watery mix of gravy, condensation and disappointment at the bottom.
I gave one star, because zero stars...
Read moreI’m giving them 4 stars because i really see potential here.
The shawarma is okay, it’s not the best shawarma i have ever had but it’s the best (and only) shawarma in Kaz, so it’s a welcome addition to the menu. I don’t think the chicken is on a spit, it doesn’t have that delicious crispy outside, but it’s still good. Garlic sauce is good, not too overwhelming but could’ve used more on the sandwich. Compared to my first shawarma from there back in May i have already seen improvements.
My only issues are that they don’t ask what you want on your shawarma. It would be nice to be able to know the options and customize as needed. I also think a spicy garlic sauce would be amazing too, although they have hot sauce to quench that spicy thirst. The size is not that great, the large shawarma is quite thin, so more toppings would be wonderful!
The poutine was great. Fries are cooked perfectly and the gravy isn’t too bland or too salty, it’s the perfect blend of flavour. Could’ve used a few more curds but, I am a bit of a curd fiend so that may just me be.
Overall i see a lot of potential and this is the first summer under new management, so i have hope that things will only continue to get...
Read moreI get that costs are up everywhere, but almost 9$ for a small poutine that doesn't even fill up the small container, that is gouging!!! This place used to be crowded because it was THE go to place in kaz, now it was deserted, yet it still took longer to get the order than when the place was jammed packed with customers. I don't long term survival for the business. Especially when the next one up the road is far superior in taste, quantity and price competitiveness. But 25$ for 3 half filled poutines? No thank you! You lost a customer that has been stopping here for...
