An english message will follow:

(On était déjà venu auparavant).

In english now: Bad bad very bad

I'm from the Charlevoix region, this steak house is usually the best in the region, and it still is... But the attitude of the owner is deceiving. All restaurant and hotel owners in our region are nice and this restaurant owner isn't wellcoming. To resume here is what happened. We were a party of 5. We all ordered a Filet Mignon. It took 1 hour before we got our meal but that's ok because the place is fun and we had some drinks. At 8:10 3 of us got our plate. The server explained that the 2 others were on their way because there was a mix up and they cooked 5 ounces instead of 7 ounces steaks. Well it's ok, it only takes 5 minutes to cook a medium rear steak. Time passed... after 15 minutes the waiter came back and said that he was sorry and that they had a ''problem''. The other 3 had practically finished their plates... After 30 minutes I finally canceled my plate because I wasn't in the mood for eating anymore. The others were finished. After 35 minutes the 5th person in our group got his plate. The meat was ''very well done''. It's a shame to massacre such a nice piece of Filet Mignon... so he canceled his plate too. We decided we had enough and started to leave. I had not seen the owner yet and asked for her. She said she was really really sorry and that this never happened before period. I had to pay for my appetizer (I had a soup). This is definitely not the way to treat a client... She should have offered us a voucher to come back another day. She truly doesn't seem to care about her clients. Kind of a tourist trap I find. Beware G-7 guests, not a...

Be warned. If you call and make a reservation SPECIFY that you want a table for two of that is the case. There are not many. A part of their experience is sitting you at a table with 8 other people. Not fun. And when you say you dont want to be squished up against people you dont know for supper, its like you insult them. Our waitress told is THIS ISN’T a MIKE’s RESTAURANT. I actually like Mike’s but ok. We waited for the tour but it takes time. Got it. We got there at 1800, got our salad at 1930, main meal at 2000. People were getting hungry. My wife liked her surf and turf, my ribs were very dry (overcooked) and two other tables also sent back the meat to get reheated? Why? Because they take everyone order at the same time. Yes, plates will be cold and potentially overcooking. Allowing to sit to long. Anyway, we paid, did not wait for dessert or tour and just left. If you go with a bunch of people im sure its a lot of fun. Waited all week for this awesome bbq style restaurant. Left mad and disappointed..

UPDATE SINCE RESPONSE FROM BOOTLEGGER - Thank you for the response. You say that sometimes things don't go the way they should? Thank you for admitting there were problems. But, I still had to pay 240$ (with tip). Quite...

Or, on aurait dit du poulet bouilli.

Wow!!! This was an experience we never expected. My wife and I were roadtipping for our 20th anniversary, heading out to see the whales. Looking for some good food I stumbled apon this crazy must visit establishment. (So did Elvis) We do not speak a lick of french, we relied to make a reso but we could only get 6pm and we were not going to make it on time. So we just showed up at 630. Downstairs (main entrance) I asked for a ta le for 2. I was told NO. I asked how long... No . Okay so we were about to leave and I said let me just poke my head up. Lucky me I was able to get the last 2 seats. Not realizing it was dinner, tour and a show. Well... we ate (very well) open fire stakes and ribs!!! The we had an awsome tour ( all in French) but we laughed when we were told to. At the end our tour guide gave us an independent coles notes in English. We were so happy we got a table. It turned out to be a highlight for sure. We highly recommend this prohibition style establishment.

We really loved the Bootlegger restaurant. The steaks were amazing as well as the sides, but the atmosphere and the waiters are a big part of why it's an amazing experience. Alexandre, our waiter, was very friendly, nice and knowledgeable. You get to have a 20 minutes guided tour of the restaurant after you're done your appetizers. We've learn some interesting facts about prohibition as well as Elvis Presley and saw lots of secret and hidden rooms. After the tour you come back to get and eat your main course. Later on you get to see a band which so happens to have the owner mostly singing. I highly recommend this place.

Today we visited the hidden rooms of this Prohibition-era house. It's fabulous! Don't ever miss it!!! Thanks to Dave for being our guide and sharing the history and behind-the-scenes of the Maison Du Bootlegger. A huge thank you to the owner, Johanne, a wonderful and lovely woman, who has brought this house back to life. Here you can eat, drink, visit, and dance to the sound of rock music! (Her dog, Priscilla, is so beautiful too) Johanne, thank you for this experience. Unfortunately, we didn't eat or drink... next time we come back to Quebec! Johanne, we look forward to seeing you in Milan!!!
