I spent this past winter camping at provincial parks, the Pinery being one of them. MacPherson’s became my “home away from home”, not that they knew it. The friendly staff treated me like family each time I came in. They are kind, and real! They’re not trying to pad their tips with the service they provide, it just seems so natural for them, and very much like they enjoyed my visit with them. They back each other up covering tables just so the patrons never have to wait. The food was delicious and the chef in the back put their own flair on traditional foods that stepped up each item tenfold in flavour, and portions are always generous. The tap beer selection may be limited, but they’ve had Damn Dark (dark ale) and local Point Franks brewed beer which have become favorites for me. Whomever selects the beers to be on tap has an outstanding sense of what a good beer is. And of course the home baked pies - 🤯. So many kinds, so delicious, all baked in house, that you absolutely have to try. Do you have a favorite pie? MacPherson’s will probably have made it fresh today and it’s waiting for you😉. If you are traveling along the Lake Huron coast, make sure this is a stop. You will not be disappointed. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that MacPherson’s is also a General Store, Gas Station, and Gift Shop, if you just need to pop in on your way thru, but they’re family so visit a while and leave fuller in the belly and lighter...
Read moreWe haven't been to this restaurant for a while as we had moved away. We were so excited to order our favourite breakfast meal without looking at other options on the menu. We ordered 2 meals consisting of eggs with hollandaise sauce and hashbrown. The eggs were not soft; no yolk running when cutting into it. The hollandaise sauce was old and did not have the liquid gold colour in it. The mashed potatoe/hashbrown had a burned taste (pic taken before eaten), soggy and not flavourful (I left 98% uneaten). What a waste of $40 (2 meals, 1 coffee and 1 hot water). The prices have gone up for what?!
We mentioned it to the cashier and it seems they are receiving complaints. Nothing is being corrected of what the cook is presenting to the customers. We were not the only ones who were disappointed in the meals.
Our waitress was a disappointment as well. We only saw her 3x; she brought the menu, but we ordered immediately as we knew what we wanted. Brought the hot beverages. Lastly, meals were placed on the table and that was it. We had to go to the cashier to ask for our bill and voice our concerns.
This is a place we will no longer consider. This was our favourite place in the past. We will now continue further down the road and try a new place on our day...
Read more3 stars is being generous, but seeing an overworked staff that is shorthanded as well, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
You are greeted when you walk in and told to go find a seat. You find one, and it there is no menu or other greeting.
Our server finally came, took our drink and food order. The soup and salad came before our drinks. The Jalapeño cheddar soup was very spicy, which would have been fine, but it should have had more cream or cheese. It was slightly separated. I needed a drink, but I didn't get one for a bit, so I choked a couple of times.
The schnitzel was good - not unreal, but good. Liked the mashed potatoes and gravy. A few of the green beans were overcooked.
My wife had fish and chips. I guess tarter sauce only comes if asked for, which we had to. She liked it ok, thought the fries were good.
I had some compassion on our server when I realized she was basically waiting on the whole restaurant - 2 large rooms. She was a little short, but not rude, and I understood why. She was working very hard, and we appreciated it.
The food did come out quickly, so kudos to the cooks.
The checkout was a mess, too. 3 teens trying to handle the gas station, convenience store, and restaurant. It's kind of a disorganized mess. At least they...
