Service was poor to the point that for the 1st time in my life … I left no gratuity. Server made numerous errors , my wife’s meal was burnt , my daughters ordered duck salads and got tuna … we had to turn back my wife’s meal . They came back with other plates for my daughters . One of them is allergic to gluten and the server was told about this … yet she was served regular bred . We had to fight to get water , we ordered a decent bottle of wine , yet had to serve ourselves. When desert came around , we were thrown plates on the table and the server came back ( while we were still eating ) and she put the bill under my cell phone . Did not offer coffee or tea and she left . We were very nice to her and did not say anything , yet she seemed to not want to be serving us . I did not leave any gratuity. Subsequently, I found Dénis the owner . I did tell him about our experience and frankly it was not worth the over $400 before taxes and gratuity … he was disappointed, yet did not offer anything . I was not looking for anything , just wanted to let him know about our poor experience … and personally , if this was my business … I would have tried to save face .Unfortunately, one bag experience for one customer , lead to many others … I don’t recommend this restaurant to anyone . Too many other on the Islands offer great service and value for a lot less . We love Iles de la Madeleine, yet Vieux Couvent does not desserve it’s reputation and you can get much better food in other small business that have staff and...

I never write terrible reviews ! I usually write when its a good place, and dont bother with negativity. But there is always an exception to my rules.||I booked a room for my husband and I -for his birthday (August 7-8) and at restaurant. That Sunday we both thought we had allergies but tested positive for covid.I did the right and responsible thing by cancelling reservation. When you call that place their is a women so darn rude, its amazing this hotel has her representing it-as I called a few times and always got her ,always rude! Needless to say ,out of respect for others we cancelled room.I was charged 474.00 .what kind of place does this-she practically said if you dont come you are losing all of your reservation. She could of cared less had we went with covid! TO me that is a lack of respect for others. We even pushed our airline tickets later ,so we would not give covid to people on planeI guess AUBERGE DU VIEUX COUVENT dont care about an extremely contagious virus as long as they fill their rooms! I know we did the right thing.I love les iles de la Madeleine but do not recommend this places they treat their guests horribly!I guess they dont practice safe environment for covid.Who does that!!!!!Highly do...

We stayed here for three nights and had a good stay. The check in was easy, with very welcoming staff. Our room had a beautiful view, wonderful waterfall shower, and was very clean, it does however lack air conditioning.. which was difficult at times with the heat we were experiencing during our stay. Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep the windows open because the islands are very windy and the windows move on very flexible hinges… keeping us up at night. If the accommodations had AC, I would rate five stars.

We dined at the restaurant every morning, which was lovely! We also ate there one night for dinner. There was a wonderful pianist. We ordered the cheese board for an appetizer, which was great. My husband had the seafood casserole, delightful. I had the tuna tataki, mediocre. It is very expensive, in my opinion, for what you get.. I would review pricing for the dinner if at all financially feasible for the business as we did have much tastier fine dining meals elsewhere!

Overall...

This place is Paradise!!!! The view from the dining room and our room were breathtaking!!! The breakfast that was included had great selection and quality. The dining room and drinks at the bar were first class too!!! The people who were customers from the islands and tourists like us were so friendly!!! The location is very central to all the islands and they were very accommodating of our tandem bicycle!!! The staff made our trip very memorable and they delivered the most amazing service!!! Special thank you to Jessica, Reginald, Frederic, Jennifer, Marie-Claude, Samuel and the behind the scene members of the team that we didn’t get to know your name!!!! You made us feel at home and we guarantee we will be back!!! Thank you!!!! Marcel & Melissa

A beautiful old hotel overlooking the sea and harbor. Transformed from convent to hotel, this turn of the century building has been restored to modern form. It may be the nicest hotel on the islands. The hotel's restaurant is very popular and will require a reservation if you decide to dine there for dinner: breakfast is included in the charge for the room. Wi-Fi was provided during our three nights stay and worked perfectly without annoying daily hangups and re-registration. French is the spoken language, but the hotel staff is very gracious about helping English speakers. Very highly recommended.

The Old Convent is a beautiful old guesthouse. One of the nicest on the islands. Very finely appointed. Good service and an excellent upscale restaurant (even if your not staying here, definitely worth a dinner reservation). In the bedroom the shower was particularly nice. The room had a mini fridge, kureig coffee, cable TV with several English channels, hairdryer, and comfortable bed. It did not have a bidet, safe in room, nor elevator.
