We have often passed this café/bakery and often thought about a visit. This time, it was lunchtime, so we stopped. What a friendly place! It's just like visiting a favourite aunt for tea and biscuits. The parking is ample, with a nice grassy garden space. There is a small terrace with shade on the gallery of the owners' renovated family house. The entrance is from the side and the counter displays an amazingly wide menu of options; in the corner is a freezer with supplies to take home, croissants to bake, soup, sauces, bread dough and similar items. We ordered a chicken/bacon wrap, spinach-cheese pastry, apple turnover and coffee. All were absolutely delicious. We ate upstairs, a cozy area rearranged into a large room with tables and a washroom.
I used to work in a museum and historical details interest me. I noticed the wide uneven floorboards, the mansard shape of the roof, the gable windows with some of the original hardware, the kitchen wing off the back, the re-purposed ceiling boards upstairs, and the general layout. I began speculating as to its age (1870?) and the original layout inside (the stairs had been moved, some bedroom walls upstairs removed, insulation and ventilation installed) and guessing where the original stovepipe had been. As we left, I admired the images on the stair wall showing the house transformation; what a magnificent job! I visited their artistic informative website and found I had guessed the age of the house accurately. It would be nice if the photos of the renovation stayed on-screen long enough to study closely. Very few whole-house renovations manage to keep the features that define the spirit of the house while re-purposing the vocation of the house without losing something in the translation. Whoever planned this treasure of family reminiscences really knows his/her stuff; the result is phenomenal.
And the food is fabulous! We...
Read morePurely a chance pit stop on our road trip through the tiny town of Cedars (Les Cedres). What a charming bakery cafe. Not only were we well received, the products were of excellent quality, particularly the multigrain bread and vienoisseries. This place will certainly be placed on our repeat trips from now on. The only negative was that we could not appreciate the water views that were blocked by a bigger building across the cafe. Wanted to conclude and thank you for making the efforts of making themed, seasonal...
Read moreI go here about once a month and absolutely love it. They always have fun pastries and there are board games upstairs. My GF and I go when we are in the area, we share a coffee and some pastries, and sit on the porch and play a game. The cafe itself is in an old house so it is really cool to walk around upstairs and appreciate the heritage building. Pastries are fresh, they have a wide and changing variety and breakfast for two is about $15, closer to $20 if there are too many things...
