Read moreI visited this tavern with my family in the summer of 2023. Just to be fair I need to clarify that I am very familiar with Polish cuisine, and Polish restaurants. We have ordered Pierogies, Cabbage Rolls, and Pork Schnitzel, all off the Polish-Kashub section of the menu. We should have ordered the regular local dishes, because the Polish ones had little to do with Polish dishes, both in taste and in size. Pierogies were two slightly oversized pieces with a bit of salad. The dish was not even close to make up a lunch or dinner menu item. This was more of an appetizer for $19. Schnitzel was even worse, small, thin, tough and with no detectable crust. It came with two small scoops of tasteless mushy potatoes that likely came from a power, or some other pre-cooked form. The only item on the plate that was eatable was the red cabbage salad. Cost $19. The cabbage rolls we ok in size, but the stuffing was mostly ground meat, which is not a Polish recipe, which also calls for rice, onions, and some other items. Couple of hours later we had to stop for another lunch in some other restaurant as we were quite hungry after the lunch in Wilno Tavern. I hope this critique would not be taken in the wrong way, but rather it would give some food for thought to the managers and cooks in Wilno. You have taken up a culinary role of representing a Polish cuisine to the locals and many passing tourists. You are not doing a good job at that. Check good sources how such classic ethnic dishes should be made properly and for god's sake - offer a decent size plates for the price. On a brighter note - the waitresses in Wilno were friendly, although we did wait for our food for more than 20 min during the...
Read moreI've always wanted to stop by the Wilno Tavern after passing by on the way to the cottage. This year to celebrate my birthday my husband and I treated my mother in law for dinner. I made a reservation this morning and was excited to visit. When we got there we were greated pleasantly by a young server, and another young server pointed us to our table. My husband went ahead, and then my mother in law followed - I noticed someone trying to push by my mother in law but then stopped and let her through - she then stepped in front of me.. and I noticed it was our server/waitress. One of the first things she said to us was "this table is booked for 7 so keep that in mind". I was so bothered by that - I felt like I was rushed out before I even sat down. She took our drink orders and they didn't have the beer my husband ordered because the fridge wasn't working and they could only keep a few kinds cold. I felt like she rushed us to order, and then when we got our food I was so nervous we wouldn't be done by 7 that I ate too fast. I also heard her tell a family that they had to finish up so she could clean the table for the next people. I watched them leave... Then the waitress was banging around a chair, cleaned the table and plopped menus down on the table (loud enough for me to jump). The food portions were amazing, I was so full - but my pierogi was cold. I was just so turned off with that first comment of "you have to be done by 7" that I was so uncomfortable - my husband knew I was uncomfortable and wanted to leave, but we were with my mother in law so we stayed.
I regret my choice of going there to celebrate my birthday and should have took advice from my neighbours to...
