I have heard good reviews and decided to pop in at lunch on a Friday. I did not realize how much time of our day it would actually take though. Restaurant was a bit busy but was encouraged when we only waited a brief five minutes to be seated. Unfortunately the good luck was short lived. It took another twenty minutes before our waitress stopped at our table so we ordered drinks and food at that time. We expected it should be good timing because there were only three of us ordering the special, kid’s pancakes and an order of soup. Took ten minutes to get the drinks and then another twenty after our drinks for the food. They stopped at our table three times to give us coleslaw in a little bowl and looked confused when we asked to just eat some food. We counted three tables served food before us that were seated after. The food was ok at best. The gumbo soup tasted like tomato sauce with hotdogs (or thin type sausages) in it. The pancakes had a fried mushroom on the bottom. The pan was clearly multitasking different meals with little cleaning. This whole experience took an hour and a half and we only need about fifteen of it to actually eat. Be your own judge. I gave the restaurant a chance but there is a delightful place up the road in Rockford that we have eaten at several times with great service and food even when busy. I feel like they forgot about us but would not admit it. Only eat here if you like plain...

My wife and I stopped in to Kettles yesterday for a late lunch / early dinner. The service was okay. The waitresses were friendly and polite. My wife had the butterfly shrimp dinner with french fries and I had the roast beef dinner with home fries. Both meals came with a dish of cole slaw and a dinner roll. The cole slaw was delicious and the dinner rolls were fresh, warm and delicious. The shrimp dinner came with 6 butterfly shrimp which my wife said were delicious. The french fries were standard fare but tasted fine. My roast beef dinner came with home fries which were delicious. The roast beef was very good with no fat however it came with chicken gravy not beef gravy. The gravy was simply poured over the roast beef. I would have liked some gravy poured over the bread slice prior to the roast beef being placed on the bread and then more gravy poured on the roast beef. I found the roast beef to be somewhat dry on the bottom due to this omission. The menu did not state that the roast beef dinner was a hot beef sandwich and I was not asked if I preferred brown or whole wheat bread instead of white bread so I don't know if that was an option. Also the dinner rolls were only available in white and not brown or whole wheat. Both meals came with corn for the vegetable which was okay but a mixed vegetable medley would have been preferred. Minor omissions I know but for these reasons I am rating this...

This was my second and last visit here. Came once years ago and service was terrible. After taking our order, we waited while a family was seated next to us. They placed there order, were served, finished eating and left while we continued to wait for our meal.

After years of refusing to go back, decided to give it one more try, based on its continued good reviews. Well, service was much better, but my toast had been sitting so long before being served that it had gone soggy. Asked for grapefruit juice and was served a bottle of grapefruit juice cocktail. Sorry, but it is not the same thing. Coffee was mediocre at best.

My main course was fine, but after asking my wife if she wanted her eggs runny, medium or hard, and ordering runny, she was served medium hard. While she didn't say anything about them, I noticed. When the waitress finally came by to ask how everything was, I commented about my wife's eggs. The waitress initially just apologized and turned around and walked off. She did however returned shortly thereafter to ask if my wife would like her eggs redone. As I was more than half done with my breakfast, my wife said that wouldn't be necessary.

My comment after our first visit was that you don't have a second chance to make a first impression. It took years before we decided to give it one more try. After our second impression, I don't see us giving it a...

A very popular local spot and draws a decent crowd! But there was no wait for my party of 5 when we arrived during lunch hour. Friendly staff, fast service and bottomless coffee. The coffee is listed as premium on the menu but its the average diner-fare coffee. They served hot apple cider which was delicious and much better quality than the coffee. The food is very generous and some dishes were a hit whereas others were ok. The onion rings and tater tots (or jewels as they call them) are perfectly friend and delicious. The reuben sandwich was very well made and one of the highlights of the menu. The mozzarella sticks were very salt and arrived at the table luke warm so the cheese was harder since it wasn't at the right temperature and hardened. The chicken BLT club could have been better in the plating and preparation. You get a generous chicken breast which is great but its very difficult to eat because the entire breast is sandwiched in a bun. It would have been great to have it butterflied and layered in rye like a club sandwich. The Ocktoberfest sausage breakfast comes with 1 large sausage but is on the salty side. I'd still recommend this place to come eat and its worth a visit. Especially its not a greasy spoon like other diners can be so you can enjoy your diner fare without feeling heavy afterwards.

Review title: Step, step, step...... Stopped in while on our road trip, for an early supper, it wasn't that busy when we arrived, but was when we were finishing up. Food portions were really big, ours and others that were dining around us. I found it odd that you could order a sandwich, burger or wrap then pay an extra $5+ for a side like fries....I didn't want a large "dinner" meal, so decided to get poutine, which was a big portion and was good, despite the gravy not being very flavourful. My fellow diner ordered an open faced beef dinner and said it was good, cole slaw was good too as I tried some. It seemed a little disorganized with who was serving us and looking after our table as we had three different Servers during four meal, not including the young woman who worked there who walked around and past our booth a LOT, not sure if she was on a daily step mission, but when I asked for a refill on coffee, she said she'd have to get someone who could help and that person never came, so I asked the next person walking by...lots of activity, not so much that was helpful lol Maybe an update in training could strengthen the service side of this place, this contributed to my lower star rating.

You gotta eat here! Visiting the Owen Sound area and this place came recommend by the locals. We were not disappointed. Thr food was incredible and large portions. My chicken ceaser wrap would have fed 2...but no matter how full I was, I was not leaving without their Special Carrot Cake ..warm cake, icing to die for, vanilla ice cream with Carmel drizzle. My partner had the brownie which came warmed with ice cream with fudge drizzle and whipped cream. Both deserts were beyond delicious and could have easily served 2. It is a busy spot but we were able to get in for supper without a wait as we came a bit later. The only reason I am giving the service a lower rating is because we felt a bit rushed. I was still eating my supper when we were asked if we wanted desert and we just had the feeling like we need to to rush to eat. That being said, this restaurant closes at 8pm and we did not get there until around 7. We did not intend to linger but I realize they they were trying to get ready to close. Also, keep in mind that they do not have a liquor license. Overall all, exceptional food. And will be back when in this area again. :)
