Charming and historic restaurant near Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. It's a hidden local gem and I would give this place a 6 stars if I could. Everything exceeded my expectations with regards to food, service and atmosphere. Prices are also affordable and food is generously sized and delicious. This restaurant is very unique in what they offer and cater to many from their Main Dining Room (more fancy) to their Magnolia Patio (for soaking up the sun) to Peter Cellar's Pub (fun and laid back space downstairs) and to their Wine Cellar (private space for up to 8 guests). We were originally looking to dine in their Main Dining Room but didn't make any reservations so we ended up in the pub downstairs. It was a pleasant surprise as we weren't even aware that a pub existed downstairs. The server/bartender was very friendly, attentive and all his recommendations were spot on. The pub downstairs has a very cozy vibe, fantastic decor and they even have a train chugging along the upper perimeter of the room. You can hear the floorboard above creaking down in the pub but that didn't bother us at all and it actually adds to the charm and character of this building. For our mains, we ordered the Pork Schnitzel and the Pan Seared Pickerel. We shared a Vermont Blonde on tap and had the Bread & Butter Pudding for dessert. Everything we ordered was recommended by our server and it was delicious including the sides that came with the main dish. There are a few dish items that are different depending on where you dine. Nicoise Salad is offered in the Main Dining Room but not in Peter Cellar's Pub. Our server kindly advised that we would still be able to order this item should we wish to do so. Peter Cellar's Pub offers Fish & Chips on Fridays only. We came on a Saturday evening so that was not an option, but we will definitely have to come back and try that out! I absolutely...
Read moreAs a person who suffers from anaphylaxis, dining isn’t always easy. Having said that, no restaurant should ever make you feel ashamed or ridiculed for something with which you can’t control. Insert Peter Cellar’s Pub. I am writing my review as my overall experience was horrific, left me in tears and needs to be shared in order to be addressed. When we arrived, we were greeted by an obnoxious bar keep who thought his insults were charming. When advising of my allergy, he referred to me as “Special Needs.” This isn’t even the worst of it! He asked me if I was lying about my allergy and that the whole kitchen would need to change if I was being serious. After mentioning that I was carrying an epi-pen and that my dairy allergy should not be taken lightly, he continued asking if I would die. This must have been repeated at least 6 times, enough to warrant stares by other patrons at this tiny establishment. An hour passed to which the manager came to our table, her words: “We’re not a medical facility and we will not take the risk to serve you here.” Not only did it take this restaurant over an hour to tell me I couldn’t eat here, that same bar-keep, once again repeated, “You’ll die here!” “I don’t know how you ever eat out.” It was horrible. Everyone was staring. This man insulted me and wouldn’t stop with his dying jokes. It was the worst experience I have ever endured. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. The manager and staff at this establishment need a lesson in customer service and respect. Thank goodness that there are places in this area that shine like The Globe. They took our group of 6 and turned our night around. Our server was welcoming and accommodating and added so many nice touches to our experience. Thank you to The Globe! We will...
Read moreI have been to hundreds and hundreds of restaurants in my time and there are not many that I do a repeat business to, except for the Mono Cliffs Inn. We frequent the downstairs pub for food and drink often. The atmosphere is old English pub. It's very small but comfortable. The proximity of tables is close which leads to friendly chats with others. Good place to meet friendly people who sometimes come from as far as downtown to visit this place because of its reputation. The service is excellent with the Pub Keep, Wayne, making everyone feel very welcome. He somehow remembers people and their names even with him seeing so many different patrons. With that skill he is able to introduce people which often leads to many afternoons or evenings of good times and maybe even a friendly game of Trivial Pursuit. The restaurant upstairs is fantastic and all the food there is made fresh in their facility with local ingredients, if possible. Its not a formal atmosphere but has a great feeling to it with the old wood floors and decor but makes you feel like you are eating upscale while in a relaxing environment. We've never had a bad meal or felt like it wasn't worth the money. Menu changes often but one thing is a constant, the bread pudding desert, which you...
