I've been here a handful of times over the past 15 years or so - my most recent experience was on Sunday March 9th 2025. We came as a group of 7, we noticed their social media page advertised a special for March break, kids eat free - so took advantage of this offer. Normally children 3+ have to pay around $17 which can be quite expensive if you have a toddler who doesn't eat much. We opted for the "traditional" service, which comes up to around $37 per adult (before tax/tip). The traditional service means they serve you at your table like a regular restaurant, the food is still unlimited - you just have to ask for more. Otherwise there is a slightly cheaper option which is the self-serve buffet. I did not see this with my own eyes as the buffet option is served in another room, however it is supposed to be the same concept and selections. I was just worried the food might not be as fresh.
Menu options and all rates are clearly listed on their site. I really enjoyed the pea soup, ham/egg and breakfast sausage and breakfast style potatoes. Deserts are good and very fresh, different style of donuts, pies and poudding chomeur. More disappointing items were the bread - this is a prepackaged roll, not made on site. It was quite hard and dry. The pork and beans were also hard/undercooked. There is a small "salad bar" where you can pick some marinated beets/pickles and small selection of potato salad however these options were just OK.
We noticed our server did not immediately bring us any milk or coffee however this is supposed to be included so make sure you ask for it.
They seem to want to clear tables as fast as possible so we felt a bit rushed eating our meals. Compared to previous years before covid, I found the food quality went down a bit and sadly this hurts before the price has gone up so much.
In terms of activities, this is a large location - there is a dance hall with country music/line dance, a small interior play area for kids, with slides and and such, an outdoor mini farm with goats/sheep/lama and a tractor ride. You can also take a hike in the mountain, there are some walking trails.
I think the interior needs to undergo a small renovation, I found the entrance area extremely dark - they could at least add lighting or change bulbs. The bathrooms are also extremely small and many of the doors do not lock well or are flimsy.
I like the size of this cabane a sucre as many other places require reservations nowadays however this place is so big you can show up almost any time and find a seat. In terms of pricing and availability, it's still a decent choice but I would be curious to try other similar sugar shacks since there are so many I am not sure this can be...
Read moreTWENTY years ago this sugaring off used to be the best with excellent food and fast service but yesterday we got really disappointed!!We were a huge group almost 30 and we waited in line more then 2 hours!!!We had kids age from 6 years and 10 months and noone seems to care. Finally when we got to the table arond 1pm ,the food was disgusting! The omelette had no taste, the ham same things. The beans and potatoes a bit ok.Les oreilles de crisse not the best and same for la salade de choux. The waitress didnt even mention that we were supposed to get up and wait a HUGEEEE line to get the pea soup. Sausages had a very bad tasteand dessert tasted old. Some donuts and tartellette au sucre .Coffee and milk was fine. For the tire sur la neige, another disappointement.!!We waited another huge line and we barely tasted and grap some old leftover sirop on the snow not enought for 4 people when a rude guy told us to move along and didnt care if my family had more ice then toffy on the stick.Very rude!Activities were fun and kids had fun but overall not coming back again! Also we bought a inflatable toy at the boutique and after 20 minutes drive the toy started to lose air.I called and said politely if i can exchange it in the next few weeks because i have the receipt. After two minutes on hold the worker told me that if i want to exchange it i will need to buy food.So unfare!!Making a child cry and ONLY EXCHANGE A TOY IF I BUY FOOD??? so crazy!!spending 60.00 dollars again on food for a $5.00 toy?Never go...
Read moreI have been going to this sugar shack for over 25 years now, since I was a kid, and absolutely loved the place. We have given it 5 stars every other year. However, we were quite disappointed this year. Although prices increased, the service and quality did not match the usual standards. Instead of table service, it is now a buffet style restaurant. That in itself decreased the sugar shack experience, but it would have been ok if the quality of the food had not decreased as well. The staff no longer wear traditional clothes and have standard restaurant uniforms. I guess the most disappointing thing is the pipes all around the forest to collect sap instead of buckets. It gives it an industrial feel instead of a traditional Québécois sugar shack experience, which is frankly the whole point. It also lessens the beauty...
