The Wyck Recommendation: Tru Food Café (Lion’s Head) Rating: 3.8/5 Pickleball, Pain, and a Cookie with Tahini Intro Scene We pulled up starving and semi-delusional - three people in search of eggs, answers, and maybe peace. One of us was fresh off a breakup and hitting on every woman like it was a team sport. One had just survived a savage pickleball match and was entering full-body shutdown. And then there was me, hoping this adorable barn café would deliver something hot and fried enough to justify the journey. Instead, we walked into a soft, sunlit space where brunch was a suggestion, not a guarantee. What Was Ordered Two iced coffees and a box of cookies that slapped way harder than expected - especially the tahini one, which sounded like a punishment and tasted like redemption. They had paninis, sandwiches, and smoothies - breakfast-adjacent, sure - but no eggs, no toast, no sizzling anything. The menu leans wholesome, not hangover. Service Commentary The staff were next-level - kind, funny, open. We joked about tahini, flirted with mild chaos, and somehow walked away feeling emotionally recalibrated. They handled our strange trio with grace, not judgment. If service could be bottled and sold, they’d already be rich. Vibe Check Kids’ art, chalkboard affirmations, yarn dolls. This place doesn’t just serve food - it offers a slow exhale. There’s no noise, no rush, no hint of the outside world. It’s aggressively peaceful, like a meditation app you can eat inside. The Space Itself Bright, handmade, and vaguely enchanted. A children’s corner, shelves of crafts, natural light that feels curated. You’ll find something knitted whether you want to or not. Like brunching inside a dream sequence narrated by a herbalist. About the Neighborhood This is deep Lion’s Head. Quiet roads, big skies, and no backup plan. Once you arrive, you're committed. There is no Plan B. Just one café, a gravel parking lot, and your own lowered expectations. Hits & Misses ✓ Cookie with tahini - weird name, unreal payoff ✓ Staff - generous, grounded, slightly magical ✓ Atmosphere - tranquil and visually strange in a good way ✗ Exterior gives “converted shed with secrets” ✗ Self-serve coffee - not cozy, just functional Final Verdict Tru Food Café is where you go to pause, not pig out. It won’t satisfy your inner brunch goblin, but it might calm your nervous system. Between the iced coffee, the unexpectedly amazing cookie, and the most emotionally intuitive staff we’ve met in weeks, we left feeling weirdly healed. Not full. But healed. Rating: 3.8/5 Perfect For Soft landings after chaotic energy Rebuilding your faith in people, one tahini cookie at a time

WARNING: This establishment’s staff does NOT wear masks or any coverings and I felt uncomfortable receiving their service. They do post a notice on their door to warn customers that they don’t adhere to the municipality’s mask wearing recommendation, but at the time of entering, I didn’t know how uncomfortable I would feel. I’m sad to have to post this, because the food was wholesome and delicious, but I hope this will encourage the owners to change their COVID policies and increase precautions like taking temperature, getting contact info for contact tracing, mandating mask wearing, etc that are not currently in place. Two main observations: 1) there is plexiglass for the counter but the lady preparing the food was not wearing a mask and did not wear one when walking to the tables to serve food 2) store owners not wearing masks creates an environment where patrons don’t feel like they have to follow the health recommendations either, with people going to the bathroom, refilling their coffee and generally standing from their tables without a mask If you choose to go to this cafe, just be warned!! I was uncomfortable, especially coming from Toronto where COVID precautions are generally taken pretty seriously.

This is an amazing healthy option in the Tobermory area. There have plenty of vegan options as well. I got the vegan breakfast sandwich on a bagel. The flavour was average, nothing to write home about, but it is made with good ingredients and nothing tastes as good as feeling good. We came back for lunch and got some smoothies (the blueberry one) and it was tasty. Love that it has protein powder in it to make it more filling and an excellent midday boost. We also had the pleasure of trying some treats. We had the banana choco muffins and a cookie that I forget the name of but it was made with almond butter and it was melt in your mouth delicious. I highly recommend this spot for hikers to fuel your body with good stuff :)

OMG, pull your car over and don’t miss this place, it’s a hidden gem! Amazing organic coffee, to die for healthy baked treats, fresh sandwiches, gluten free options, and a cute little store section of health foods and fresh maple syrup and cacao products, and hand made goods like skin care products and beeswax candles. And the price tags was less than what I pay in Mississauga for organic baked items (organic coffee was only $2.50 I think, adorned with all the raw cacao and cinnamon I wanted - it’s these little details that make this place special). Also noted a book exchange and cozy dine-in area. I will definitely return next time I’m passing, I wish I had a cafe store like this near me, well done ladies! Ps: peanut butter bar, and that chocolate bark - she was right, it’s more like a meal than a treat, just that bar fueled me for the whole 5 hour hike, clean...
