My girlfriend Caroline and I enjoyed stellar service, and some of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had! Thanks so much for the hot cuppa and the even warmer welcome!
Round 2: We finally made it back, and immediately ordered another round of fish and chips. Lol. I had so very much wanted to try something else such as the Irish breakfast, but once I saw another patron served the fish and chips... I couldn’t help myself and ordered a two piece. It became my supper as well. Caroline made our visit so much fun!
Round 3: We reserved a table and headed up to the restaurant for the Irish Breakfast complete with Irish white and black pudding. Caroline and I simply loved the white pudding, but we both agreed that neither of us would have shared our black pudding. It had a distinctive flavour to it that was wholly new to me. The soda bread she serves as part of the breakfast was wonderful, and I found myself savouring the flavour and texture of the bread, especially those bits that had become a heavier crust on the grill. I went through the entire pot ow tea while my girlfriend Caroline’s coffee cup never ran dry.
Round 4: We looked at the menu, but I had already decided I wanted another lovely Irish Breakfast again, as did Caroline, and today there was some lovely store baked bread. Caroline called it raisin bread, but I don’t remember any raisins, just lovely butter topped thick bread. I had a strawberry tart with cream (more of a custard...) that was heavenly! There was a magnificent strawberry compote at the bottom of all that lovely cream! Wow!
Round 47: If you walk in and Caroline has “brown sweet bread” in the display case, order that with your meal. I enjoyed it so much.
Today my girlfriend Caroline and I had the ragout of pork and an Irish breakfast fry up. The show stopper was the pork sausage patty with mace that reminded me of the English Bangers I used to make. Absolutely brilliant and well received. Her home cured bacon was wonderful. I enjoyed everything the I ate today, including the lemon Bakewell tart and the bits of cinnamon bun that my girlfriend shared with me.
The food is fantastic but is outshined by the service...
Read moreThe server/owner was very rude. The restaurant was full when we arrived with at least 2 tables waiting for food. We waited to be served. While waiting, the server stopped another customer (group of 3) behind us from using the washroom saying that the washroom is for customer only and suggested that they use the washroom at the gas station down the road. The customer said that they'll be ordering food, and the server pointed to the dining room and said she has a room full of customers to feed. And the 3 left. She then finally had eye contact with us and we asked if she could take our order. She responded that the restaurant is full, to which we said we are OK with takeout. She again pointed to the dining room and repeated "I have a room full of people to feed". She threw 5 potential customers out within 10 minutes. She probably had a bad day, and nothing is lost offending tourists (one-time customers), I guess.
Responding to Owner (August 30, 2022): We are a party of 2, not a group of 5. Did you assume that the party of 3 you threw out were with us? Or you've confused us with some other groups. We were standing at the entrance waiting to be served. We were at the door and left after you said "I have a room full of people to feed" when my partner asked if we could do a takeout instead. By your response, I guess potential customers are not customers to you until you've decided to seat and serve them. As for your claim of serving good food, I would not know since I did not eat any. And you can be honest and in a timely fashion without being...
Read moreSave yourself the hassle/risk/frustration, do not eat here. Tourists are very clearly unwelcome, at least I'm assuming it's the tourist part they hated and not our skin color. There are several restaurants just over the bridge, go eat there. We went in, they were full up so we asked for take away and the waitress made it very, very clear that the seated customers were her priority. She basically kicked us out, but not the white couple that came in behind us.
I get that she was busy, but she apparently had time to start an argument with another incoming customer about the washroom policy. Clearly making the unmanageable situation even worse. In the few minutes we were there, it seemed like she was being rude to everyone regardless. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she went out of her way to not take our money.
All the same, we didn't bring her personal problems to her doorstep, we just dropped in for takeout. If it's just that they hate the tourists, ok, you have to wonder about what goes in to your food as well.
Just don't eat there. Several places 1km up the road that are happy to take your money even if you are a tourist...
