I spent a week is St John’s trying a lot of seafood but I was SURPRISED that the best seafood I had during my stay was at Squid Jiggler 😃 Like most small town restaurants, the place doubled up as a bar and slot machine hall … so admittedly my expectations were low. However, I had the best cod and scallop that I’ve ever eaten in my life at this restaurant. The 3pcs pan fried cod was thick cut, soft and juicy. After having that meal, it was apprent that I’ve only had frozen cod all my life! My wife had the fried scallops … perfectly breaded on the outside but the meat had so much juice and flavor that it calls to question if we have everything we’ve had in the past was frozen and tasteless. I came in July when it was cod season and the waitress did say that the cod was caught fresh yesterday. She also recommended the seafood chowder which I did not find much better than any of the other chowder I’ve had in St John’s. Overall, this was a gem of a find👍

Придорожный ресторан с красивым видом. Внутри игровые автоматы, но в целом, просторно. Свежая рыба и вкусный гороховый суп.

Great locals place on Capelin Bay. We went in on Canada Day. It was very busy and even the staff said it was far busier than normal. As such things took a little longer than normal. Still it was not unbearable and I am sure on a regular day they must get things out quickly. You have to choose whether you want to sit in the pub side or the restaurant side and we chose the restaurant as we had a little kid. The main difference I think is that you have to get a bartender come over to take your drink order as the staff on that side are not old enough. When the food arrived I had a massive plate of fish and poutine. It was really good and far more food than I could reasonably eat. Prices were good considering what you got. My partner had a hot turkey sandwich and the gravy was delicious. There was also a kids menu. Definitely a good place to stop if you are in the area.

It started off great! My boyfriend and I are on our trip to Newfoundland to visit his family. I’m vegan and I was well aware that find restaurants that’s serve vegans would be hard ... I asked our waitress what vegetarian options they had while I pointed out the pea soup. I asked if it was also dairy free, she went and checked. On the menu it listed the pea soup and underneath it said turkey or beef. Giving me the impression it was pea soup, turkey or beef soup. After I mentioned I was vegetarian she agreed that pea soup would be a good option.

Nonetheless after spending 7 years not eating an ounce of meat.. there I was taking my first mouth full thinking the little brown parts were mushrooms. Nope. When I brought this to our waitresses attention she wasn’t apologetic or offered to take it off our bill. When I went to pay for my boyfriend and I’s dinner I had to tell the front cash person to take it off.

I felt so unwanted and uncomfortable. Still tipped her but I can’t believe the feeling of disrespect when I brought this to...

First off I want to say the food is absolutely the best pub food on the island. We were there yesterday evening, we called in our order for pick up; the lady on the phone said it will be about 20 mins to a half hour, we get there we go in to pick up, the lady asks our last name and we tell her, she comes back and says it’s not ready yet, we wait and wait and another waitress asked us our last name we tell her she said it’s not ready yet, we wait again. Finally another lady comes out and she apologizes for our wait and let’s us know they are down staff. We say that’s ok. While we were there at 9 pm this place was packed, they had so many orders to get through. But we didn’t mind. Everywhere is busy and everywhere is short staffed. So if you go in and are waiting then let it be, they are doing there best. Thank you so much for the best burgers poutines and hot wings and also for the excellent service and for keeping us up to date when the food was coming up. We will...
