Food & Beverage: My husband and I ordered from the indoor menu (we were later told by a server that the patio menu was slightly different). There weren't many options on the menu that appealed to my preference so I ordered only fries, dressing, gravy. When I received my order, it looked appetizing and it was absolutely delicious. I felt like I had eaten a plate of fries at my nans house--it tasted so "Newfoundland" like. My husband enjoyed his chicken and fries and I ate his coleslaw which was also delicious.
Price: Slightly above average.
Atmosphere: Besides a lot of litter on the grounds of the parking lot and leading to the restaurant; the restaurant itself was very clean and decorative with a nautical style. Newfoundland music was gently playing overhead, bathroom was clean, seats were comfortable until a server left open the door directly behind me without asking or letting me know. I found the breeze was cold at my back and I was getting irritated so I asked the server if we could just move outside to the patio (since I'm already cold) instead of to another indoor table or asking her to shut the door. She allowed it. The patio was much warmer with the sun directly on me (though there are umbrellas). Despite the traffic, it was still a comfortable and fairly quiet area.
Service: Besides deciding to move from the indoor dining area to outdoor patio due to a server (who wasn't my server but the person who seated us) making me feel slightly uncomfortable (see Atmosphere for details), service was good, friendly, accurate and timely.
Other: I do not reccomend for wheelchair, though it may be an option for some. I definitely do not reccomend for vegetarian or vegan. There are some gluten free options.

Read moreFirst time at this restaurant. We had it as take out at the cabin. Their homemade onion rings were good but that's about where the good ended.
I love homemade chicken fingers, and that's a part of the reason we went here as I heard their chicken was great. Mine on the other hand was that salty we couldn't even eat it. It turned my stomach after the first 2 I ate.
Here is the problem... They are simply using "Chicken Coater mix" (which can be bought at smaller community stores such as a cloverfarm). I use it all the time and it can be salty if not used correctly. I figured they would have made their own breading recipe so that was a disappointment in its self. But when you put it on Frozen chicken breasts such as Pintys chicken (Which is brined) it becomes extremely salty which is exactly the kind of chicken they use. You can taste the off flavor in the chicken and anyone who had used Pintys frozen chicken breast would know what I am talking about. The breading wasn't browned up enough, I actually re-fried the left overs the next day to try it again. While more appealing it was still too salty to eat.
Fries tasted alight but were very pale and appeared undercooked.
Recommendations: Stop using chicken coater or at the very least use fresh chicken breasts. I paid enough ($50) for 2 orders of 4 chicken fingers and fries and an order of onion rings.
I always like to give second chances, however I wont be wasting another $50 dollars at this place for food that I...
Read moreWe enjoyed this restaurant so much, we came three nights in a row. While it's true, this area doesn't have many restaurants, even if it was in St John's, we would have kept coming back. Why? The food is excellent! I really enjoyed my grilled and pan fried cod (two separate nights😁) & another night, equally enjoyed my seafood chowder (they didn't skimp on the seafood). Hubby loved his cod au gratin too. Other nights we ordered the same items as each other... loved everything. If you get the mashed potatoes side, ask for their gravy... very tasty. The portions are generous. All the staff are friendly and attentive... even on the busiest nights. Melissa, the owner, is very personable and works hard along with her staff. She's an impressive lady... and so young too. Be sure to save room for dessert. Between Melissa's mom making homemade (gourmet) cheesecakes (the Oh Henry cheesecake was divine) and her Nan's recipes (iceberg flow for ice cream lovers), there's something for everyone. Every single dessert we had was delicious. And the prices are very reasonable. We hope to return again to NFLD and will certainly visit The Captain's...
