The Spot Restaurant and Lounge — Restaurant in Nipawin

If we could give this review a 0 I would. We came here for a small, booked in advance wedding rehersal, and ended up sitting on the patio for 3 hours, with zero service. Waited almost an hour for water to be brought to the table in 35° weather. We had grandparents and babies among the group, who after a long day of wedding events were not even offered an Appy for snacks for over 2 hours. Half the party ended up leaving to go get fast food in town. The other half stayed as long as we could before also giving up on ever seeing our food, or even a drink refill. After all this, the manager even tried to include an auto gratuity of 20% BEFORE anyone had even received their food. The manager sent the poor lone waitress out to deal with the group of 30 instead of coming to deal with us directly. As a result the waitress was in tears because she felt so terrible. The bride's rehersal dinner was completely ruined and the manager should be ashamed of herself for trying to hide behind her poor server (just a child) to deal with a very difficult situation. I have never in my life walked out on a restaurant until tonight.

Honestly one of the worst meals we’ve had at a restaurant in a long time. Will not go back.

The lady that seated us was bordering hostile and extremely unpleasant, waitress was friendlier but there was only two girls working out front so mostly just got ignored after we ordered.

The $40 steak was salty beyond belief, broccoli was old to the point of almost being bad, “loaded” potato was nothing but cheese in a cold potato.

The ginger beef was so bad. The rice pilaf was a white rice mush, bok choy and veggies again looked and tasted like they were spoiled, and the beef was mostly tasteless.

Not to mention how dirty the kitchen looked from the quick glance I got. I’ve worked in my fair share of kitchens and for the price level of The Spot I would expect it to at least be clean.

I feel awful leaving this review but that’s honestly...

Staff were nice. Decor is minimal, may appeal to some.

The reason for 2 star is that i ordered the chicken sandwich, and was puzzled when I couldn’t see the chicken when the sandwich arrived.

It turns out that the actual piece of chicken was about 1.5 inches across, and deep fried so much that there was almost no tender meat left to put a fork in. It was curled up like the fist of a stroke victim.

I sent it back, and the next one was certainly better looking- but the chicken was still so thin the deep frying took most of the succulence out, and the reason it looked better is because there were two pieces of chicken on it instead of 1.

In other words, it wasn’t even a freak accident- all of the chicken pieces were that size.
